First what car are you planning fitting new unit in? Alternative to rcd 510 is RNS 315 or 510. Rns 315 is cheaper version and most units will have bt, dab and Navigation. You will only need install mic and gps antenna.

Re: Passat Estate B7. Android Sat nav. Yes / no
You will most likely loose oem media in and Bluetooth. But android unit will have all these features anyway. You might also loose radio in MFD and steering wheel controls. Best will be upgrading to RNS 315 which have DAB, BT and Navigation build in and cost will be around £200 Sent from my SM-G930F...

It should be straight forward as B7 has identical center console to B6.

Managed to code rear lights so brake lights act like indicators as well on my estate. Inner lights act like brake lights. Looks very cool.

Re: can i fit sat nav
If you go with OEM satnavs such RNS 315 or 510 it will be straight forward. St/wheel controls will work, you will need let car know that Sat nav fitted using vcds so it will appear on MFD too. Try eBay for second hand units , can be purchased from £200.

I think it would be wise deactivate system in windy weather. My brake assist slammed on brakes over day for empty pack of crisps blowing to the front of my car. Now when it's windy I deactivate system.

OBD11 App
Does anyone here uses OBD11 App? Apparently it can almost do everything what vcds can and only cost £48 (for Bluetooth dongle and licence). I have ordered one, just wanted to see if anyone here using one and what are opinions.

I found cheaper windscreen dab areals have better reception than oem fitted one. Windscreen mounted is best option, no drilling required. There is OEM VW Helix Sub available which fits instead of spare wheel. You will have to loose spare wheel but sound quality is pretty good. Sent from my SM-G930F ...

I use Sygic navigation, quite good but will cost about £20 for lifetime map update and traffic. Well worth it. You can get tablet holders for windscreen, seen quite few using tablet as navigation.
