I've just moved to Crewe,Cheshire and I'm looking for a good independent garage to service my Passat 2.0 tdi. Can anyone recommend one, preferably a VW specialist. I've had enough of paying main dealer prices. Thanks.

The RNS315 unit in my 2011 B7 is faulty and needs changing. Would a 510 unit work ok (plug and play), or should I buy another 315. Apart from the bigger screen, what other differences are there.

Shop around, you should be able to pick up a 2nd hand engine, fitted, for 12-1500 quid. Any decent garage wouldn't turn down the job.

Good point Holophyte, I forgot to mention the extra work for the starter and battery, especially in the winter, what with lights, heater, wipers, radio all on. I dread to think how much a replacement battery costs !

Stop/start is ok as long as you're not revving the engine hard. Doesn't do the turbo much good when you come to a stop, put the car in neutral and the engine stops....and so does the oil going to the turbo bearings !
