Re: Battery voltage low

Left it with the garage to have a look - just texted to say alternator connections OK, but having taken the alternator out it's got discoloured windings so has got hot. New one being fitted. Hopefully that will fix things!

Re: Another VCDS scan for the experts!

I would be a bit dubious about the 25V being measured. Are you sure you had a good earth and what were you using as an earth. If the car was seeing 25v at any time and you had the lights on all the bulbs would have gone. And the battery boiled dry. It seems as if you may be making headway though. I...

Typical - charging rock solid 14.2V today!

I'm gonna have a play and see if I can fix some of the VCDS errors.

Re: Another VCDS scan for the experts!

What readings did you observe when testing, specifically results that were outside the norm? Just nipped out and checked the charging voltage - all looked ok then it started climbing - got to 25V at least for a few seconds!! Then dropped back and stabilised at 14.1ish. I've not noticed this on the ...

Re: Another VCDS scan for the experts!

If the battery is original and more than 5-6 years old I would look to potentially change it. Faults seem to occur around 15:00 in the afternoon is this the time you leave work ? If the battery voltage is low when the car is started the sudden drop in voltage can cause issues. If the trip computer ...

Oh - and the 'miles to empty' is way out - shows 70 with half a tank! Re: Another VCDS scan for the experts!

I take it you are saying that the car shows no problems ? Nope, runs lovely. Are there any fault indication lights on ?. See the links above - sometimes. If you goto each module individually ECU / instrument cluster and CAN gateway and clear the faults . Then drive the car 2 minutes and recheck by ...

Re: Another VCDS scan for the experts!

I take it you are saying that the car shows no problems ? Are there any fault indication lights on ?. Seems very strange that in the second list of fault after you cleared them that the instrument cluster appears twice ??. Thats module 17. It first reports a lot of issues and then no problems. The ...

Will do - but wouldn't something stop working if it was a fuse?

I take it these are the 'normal' fuses in the footwell?

Gendan advised uninstalling the clone s/w and also the new stuff as the clone s/w can screw things up, then reinstall.

My local VW indy took 1.5h IIRC to change just the hex key. Not sure how much extra is involved with the whole drive.

Car hasn't really been used since last Fridays run should shouldn't have drained the battery very much. This morning: 12.2V on the battery (and using engine as an earth point). Ign on and FIS shows 12v. With ign still on battery shows 12V so ign causing .2Vish drop. Battery V goes back up when ign o...

Re: Battery voltage low

It's a new battery so shouldn't be that. Also, the old battery also had 11.7v so a bit of a coincidence and was tested as OK by the car shop. I replaced it anyway.

I gave it good charge as well, plus it had a good run last week and a longer one the week before (400 miles).

Try checking with a muti-meter after a long rest period. 11.7 is flat. There is a link to SOC battery figures in my other thread "Stop/start PIA??" Rob.... Yeah - I saw that which is what got me thunking! It was getting dark when I decided to check this so meter is ready for the morning. ...

FIS has got the Red firmware installed, so maybe the radio is messing things up?
