Mr Muscle oven cleaner trick
Hi all, Was wanting to ask anyone else's experience with the Mr Muscle oven cleaner in the turbo trick. My Passat 1.9 AWX is fine, but did do it on my mums Mk4 Golf 1.9 TDI 130ps 6 speed manual - A life of short journeys, and 43k miles from new... since we drove it out the showroom in Hamburg back i...

Re: Temp gauge goes down???
First rebuild was 45k miles, just head gaskets so got it fully forged, then Bob Rawle mapped. 342bhp and 410lb ft torque, yet ft lbs! Move on 5 years, my block cracked at the top of one of the bores....ouch! So, needed a brand new block / rebuild. Tons of white coolant smoke. Can't upload my photos ...

Ah ok, so not really a fault then? More just how it is?
I see your photo is a classic, I also have a Hawk STi Spec D lol 2.5 and 2 rebuilds in the 10 years I've owned it!

Temp gauge goes down???
Hi all, 54 plate 1.9 AWX 147k miles. My mums Golf Mk 4 1.9 TDi 130 does the same.....in higher RPM in 2nd or 3rd gear...say around 4-4.5k RPM for a few hundred yards, I've seen the temp gauge drop a bit. Then on more normal RPM it creeps back up to 90 degrees and stays there. What would cause that? ...

Re: 1.9 AWX Discontinued fuel lines
Thank you very much indeed guys, really helpful. What sort of PSI or bar rating should be safe? Gates list a Barricade Greenshield 4219BF product, but I'm only after 1 metre rather than a full reel....and looks only available in the US or Aus.com sites Is 140 psi enough? : https://www.carbuilder.com...

1.9 Oil filter housing gasket leaking - AWX
Hi all, 2004 1.9 AWX - leaking oil filter housing gasket, where it meets the block. Tried sealing it along the top, but the leak just starts at a different point...nightmare. Has anyone tried to tackle this job? Looks like 4 bolts holding it to the block. There is a couple of coolant lines going to ...

1.9 AWX Discontinued fuel lines
Hi all, 2004 54 plate Passat Highline 130pd AWX I spoke to VW today, and they say that 3B0 130 295 AA is out of stock...but...also discontinued with no replacement :0 I've looked on ebay / online, but can't find new ones anywhere. They come as one part and are two rubber fuel lines that that attach ...

Re: 1.9 AWX sheared dipstick tube
Yes, a very tight fit. I thought I'd pushed it down enough, but tried checking the oil and the dipstick pulled the plastic tube out. Tried again with the palm of my hand gave it a good push and it went down about half inch further this time and seated itself correctly. My old one was cracked at the ...

Re: 1.9 AWX two oil leaks?
Update, seems like the oil filter housing will need a new gasket at some point possibly, only cheap to buy, but looks pretty involved to change it. I cleaned up to and beyond the head gasket - I think this oil was there from where my oil dipstick tube was probably cracked for a while before it final...

1.9 AWX two oil leaks?
Hi all, 54 plate Highline Saloon, 146k miles I seem to have perhaps two separate oil leaks. Where the oil pump joins the block, I can see a tiny repetitive bubble coming out through the gasket where it angles downwards towards the oily bolt - top right of picture - after I've switched the engine off...

Re: 1.9 AWX sheared dipstick tube
New part ordered today, from the parts department screen it looks like it comes with an O ring....but not sure where the O ring goes?
Maybe mine vanished somewhere, but I don't recall seeing one, and it's not in the plastic bits I have left.....

Re: 1.9 AWX sheared dipstick tube
Thanks dude, yes that's the right part number.
Deffo nothing went down the metal section as the 3 bits fit perfectly snugly together.
Only £1.39 from Autodoc, but I work for VW so will get genuine.
Push fit....happy days!

1.9 AWX sheared dipstick tube
Hi all, Yesterday everything was fine, this morning I found sprayed oil on the subframe, the coolant tank, various other places that side...so I know it's only done 20 miles max like this....but could have been one mile. I think it's been cracked for a while, as the oil around the metal tube looks d...

Re: Washer bottle leak?
Hi all, So I took off my NSF wheel today and the arch liner to expose the washer bottle. No leaks before or after using it. I then traced the fluid hose up under the inner wing, no leaks. The only thing I think is leaking is the drivers side washer jet. With the bonnet up, the washer fluid still jus...

Re: Washer bottle leak?
Thank you, yes that's a massive help. I didn't even consider it could be a split hose so will keep that in mind also. On YouTube it looks like I'll be able to get a pretty good general view of the washer bottle with the arch liner pulled back and possibly wheel removed. I need to Stonechip under my...

Washer bottle leak?
Hi all, B5.5 Highline Saloon 130 AWX (for the win!) lol I think my screen wash bottle must have a leak, my warning light and message beep pops up. Usually my screen wash would last ages, but now every month it seems, my beeper comes on - and it takes 2 litres to fill it back up to the neck. The thin...

STOP - Brake Fault - Owners Manual - beeeeep!
Hi all, Just to share really, 2004 54 B5.5 Highline saloon 1.9 AWX 142k miles. Had this fault pop up on the dash along with handbrake light flashing whilst turning right into the work car park this morning, then vanished after about 10 seconds. Carried on into the car park but couldn't replicate the...

Passenger heated seat fuse
Hi all, 1.9 AWX 54 plate Highline. I'd like to take out the fuse for the heated front seat - but for the passenger side only. Is that possible? I keep finding it left on from where people have used it....sometimes days later and I've had enough of it. Hoping I can disable just that seat? That'll tea...

Is this my coolant temp sensor?
Hi all,
Me again!
1.9 AWX 54 plate.
Is this my coolant temp sensor behind the fuel filter? Mine is fine, but joking aside I am actually asking for a friend!
I thought it was somewhere near the tandem pump at the back of the head?

Re: Brake lights came on.....overnight
All carpets are dry, plenum / pollen area is clean too. I'm quite particular about that. The only time I have lighting issues is if I unlock the car, just open the driver door and leave it open, the alarm goes off after about 30 secs / 1 minute. The interior lights don't come on anymore when I just ...
