Coolant leak from rear of 202Passat Sport AVF diesel engine?

My 2002 Passat tdi Estate fitted with the AVF engine has a slow coolant leak from the rear of the engine between engine block and bulkhead. There is very little space to replace any thing here. Coolant loss is slight dropping to the MIN mark on the coolant bottle and that may take several hundred mi...

Re: Electric window connectors

Different car... This is a B4. I think that the windows have a trip and therefore all would stop working had it tripped. The drivers side is now working again having cleaned up the connector block. The passenger is still not working plugged into either the drivers side or passenger side. I've undone...

Mines a B4 so don't think it's 6 (blower) or 14 (reversing lights)

Re: Electric window connectors

Thanks for the reply Alan... But which fuse is it? No mention of electric windows on the fuse numbering.
The rear windows and sunroof still work. Is it a separate fuse to those?

Electric window connectors

Does anyone know which pin does what on the block connectors to the electric window motors? My passenger window stopped working (when down!). I've checked the wiring into the door and it looks ok. So I removed the motor plugged it into the drivers side door. No sign of life. maybe the motor is dead....

Is there a good 'How To' alternator replacement link showing removal/replacement without having to use the Service Position? Thanks

Sorry to hear of your damaged Passat. I really felt your pain as I have a treasured 2002 TDi 130 sports Estate in the same colour. See that you have an insurance quote agreed so presumably all is well.

Drivers window cables broken.

My wife reverses down drive opening the drivers window to see back so it gets a lot of use. Car is 2002 Passat estate so been very good. Hearing that replacing cables off Ebay is a fiddle to fit and cables are not available from dealer ordered whole galvanised panel from VW dealer needing the transf...

Re: Bonnet wont release! Unable to open

Buy a new T-Piece black plastic arm and a new mechanism which has a black spring steel clip that retains it in place. This clip is only available with a new mechanism. You will then be able to repair. Dropping the bonnet to close it is the best way and prevents denting the bonnet surface.

Re: sunroof not working and electric windows.

Read these postings for a B4 Passat. Mine is still in the family at 250K and had similar problems. Mine was a GL with factory sunroof. My dealer at the time stated it was the motor failure costing £350. I substituted the identical motor from my Golf GL of similar age. Still didn't work. Weeks later...

Re: 1.9 tdi tuning box, which plug ?

TUNIT tuning boxes are superbly made and I have found them to be totally reliable. I have one on my 2002 TDi AVF engined Sport Passat 6-speed. Now on 185k, pulls like a train, brilliant economy very easy to install. My clutch following replacement under warranty in 2004 has covered 125k miles with t...

Re: Black bits in coolant header tank?

Update to post. The correct radiator cap for my 2002 AVF Passat is 1JO 121 321 which I've ordered, so the one supplied two years ago was wrong. Maybe it doesn't seal properly and allows it to leak under pressure? Will see. Have sucked out some of the black bits in the coolant and they are not oily b...

Re: Black bits in coolant header tank?

I understand that the Radiator Cap 3B0 123 321 that I fitted two years ago is probably not the correct one so may a factor in the coolant leak I have? It was supplied by VW!

Black bits in coolant header tank?

Took the 2002 Passat TDi avf over to Spain/Portugal and noticed before we set off that I had lost a little coolant and that there were black bits visible in coolant ? Checked Rad and did a 'visible' after removing undertray etc. but nothing obvious apart from the usual condensation on Air con pipes ...

Re: W8 xenons in 2003 130 sport passat Good Idea?

I have a 2002 130 TDi sport estate with original Bi-xenon headlights, Headlight Washers and self-levelling suspension. The only problem I have had in over 184k was to the front self levelling sensor which had corroded internally. Shown up on VCDS. Replacement was easy but cost approx. £90. At first...

Re: Clutch juddering

I covered this in several posts I submitted several years ago under the above name and 'chipped2'. It is moisture on your DMF. Do not allow your car to judder since it will put great strain on gearbox, whole drive train , engine mounts etc. In Neutral with clutch NOT engaged......rev your engine to ...

Re: Central locking problems, Solved sort of.....?!

Bite the bullet and fit a new lock its the only way to guarantee a fix. There is a microswitch in the drivers door lock which loses a plastic toogle that isn't available. Avoid slamming doors as that doesn't help and is the cause of broken solder joints. Replacement takes time and you don't want to ...

Re: Door wiring harness question

Just a comment on repairing the door harness. It is the thicker stiffer wires that fatigue first. Soldering them or using a connector reduces the effective length that will flex and reduce the time before it breaks again. I found it better to add a length of same sized wire that is long enough to wr...

If the paint has'failed' it will have come under the original 3 year paint warranty which has long expired for a B5.5 Passat. There are no conditions stated or implied for the 12 year perforation warranty, no annual inspections, no VW full service history or even any history at all. It was for 12 ye...

I have just bought a VW CV Boot Kit which does not now include the large bolt which is now a separate part. Bear that in mind when you order. It is such a massive bolt that it may now not be necessary to replace every time... does anyone know? Bolt is now approx £9.

Re: 5.5 standard vs sport suspension?

Sport Passat has Bilstein Sport shocks anyway with sport springs and is 15mm lower. Add 17" ET37 alloys shod with 225 x45 x 17" and it will add a little extra stiffness but still retain comfort. It will not be as economical as with 205 X 55 X 16" tyres but it looks better if you can a...
