It cost me around the £600.00 mark, but a top-notch pal/mechanic of mine did it as he has a pit & all the required gear to do it, that included a new oem cam-belt/pump & all bearing/idlers etc whislt it was all in bits anyway, AND a full service, long-life oils/ filters etc. plus new brakes...

VW recommend the belt change (2L TDI) at 140,000 miles, I changed mine at 120k & you cannot tell it from a new one, amazing, clean, perfect tooth-form & still has sharp edges.

I was beginning to mark the rear on mine due to lugging stuff about, a stainless jobbie did the trick for me!!

Ok, thanks for that, but is there any way to check before buying?? The reason I ask is that I can just see the assembly rotating, & the 'fingers' look intact & spinning with the pulley, but the centre bolt doesn't, so can I assume there is a spline thats stripped?? Seems a shame to buy this ...
