MEDIA-IN multimedia interface to charge phone?
Hi, I always seem to have a trailing lead from the rear passenger cigarette lighter point to keep my phone charged when in the car, and I was idly looking in the front armrest of my B7 with RNS315 and noticed the standard USB socket. The manual says it provides the 'standard' 5V USB charging connect...

Re: electric parking brake
Maybe the B7 (which I have) is different but it does release from the 'on' position when reversing.
I have to reverse uphill out of my drive every day.
Sometimes it is slightly more reluctant to release but, no problem.

Re: Insurance
I suppose that £153 extra isn't that bad but.... Wouldn't it be great to insure cars for any driver such as they do in France and many other countries. So, if you've a valid licence, and permission, just drive it and it's covered. :-bd Too much vested interest by the owners of the Insurance companie...

Re: Insurance
You should state your age, NCB history, etc because 500 isn't that much these days, when insurance companies are doing what ever they want to do. Last year I was paying £477 with 6 ncb. This year I'm adding my missus to policy with brand new licence, so logically price is going up by few hundreds. ...

Re: B7 1.4 TSI BMT 160 has it a belt or chain cam?
So far, 60k miles, 10k oil changes and Shell v-Power.
Hoping that and 5 year/90k mile warranty will be enough until next year.
But, yes, I read about the engine too but after I bought the car.

Thanks mickjane2 and Mindriot.
Good that I don't have to worry about a cambelt, but not so good that I may have to worry about a dicky chain.

B7 1.4 TSI BMT 160 has it a belt or chain cam?
Hi, I've had conflicting info about this, including from the dealer, so: I want to know if my B7 1.4 TSI BMT 160 has a belt or chain cam. Car was bought new in June 2014, built to order in May. The engine code is CTHD, and the car 'variant' on the V5C is AACTHDX0. I had thought that they had stopped...

Re: Full lock low humming sound (B7 Passat)
On my B7, I get a low humming noise on part left lock. I seldom use full lock, but have the car in on Wednesday to try and identify it. Will post results when I know. them. Like all the best faults the noise would not reproduce with the technician in the car, though, this was after a 20 mile trip t...

Re: Tyre Options
My CSC5s are 'Contiseal' - standard fitment on my B7 TSI . Just some sticky gloop inside the tyre.
Works though - after a big hole in a rear tyre caused by a piece of wood hit at 70mph, it took the tyre a good half mile to register a problem!

Re: Clicking sound when turning steering wheel
...Funny thing. It still clicks but the steering wheel is slightly askew now.
They told me they'll straighten it if I pop in (its 20 miles!), so not yet.

Re: Contiseal Tyres or not?
Thanks to everybody who helped with suggestions.
Had the Contis fitted today - so 8mm of tread all round, for now!
In the end the cost was comparable and the convenience meant tyres and major service all done.

Re: Contiseal Tyres or not?
Thanks woodentop, valuable info! Going to look again at Goodyears, and the recent AutoExpress tyre test: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/91856/tyre-reviews-best-car-tyres-2016 Goodyears are one of the quietest - about the same as Pirelli PZero. Neither have the internal sealing like t...

Re: Clicking sound when turning steering wheel
No Raf Welsh Passat, it's bog standard 39 k miles and just over 2 years old. The sound seems to come from the steering column itself. I have only heard it from inside the car, and it doesn't sound 'handed'. Tony-1977, I hope not - more the sound of electrical contacts maybe. I shall report it when t...

Re: Contiseal Tyres or not?
Thanks Twincam.
I usually use blackcircles to set a price to beat, and a local tyre place (North Shropshire Tyres) will almost always beat it.
I'll go and check out camskill and openeo.

Clicking sound when turning steering wheel
Hi, Recently I've noticed that when I turn the steering wheel (apart from around the straight ahead position) it makes a clicking sound. Only noticed at lowish speed, maybe because I don't turn the wheel so far at normal road speeds. Does anyone have any idea if this is significant? Is it a problem ...

Re: Contiseal Tyres or not?
Big thanks to: JIMMYJAMES, Gazwould, homerjh, dubber38, Alan Gunn and Alex_ak4701!! :esm On balance, including the fact that I have a spare wheel with an unused SportContact Contiseal fitted, I think I'll go with them again. If it's motorway miles (I do quite a lot) they last pretty well. I've had 2...

Contiseal Tyres or not?
Hi, My B7 will need 4 new tyres soon and I currently have original fit Continental SportContact 5 Contiseal 235/40 R18 W (95), three have been replaced and spare is unused - car's done 39k miles now. I like the way the tyres drive - I've used Continental Sportxxxx for 15 years. My question is: Would...

Re: Plastic protectors on wheel arches
I've an exec style my 2014 and have the sane plastic protrusions on the wheel arches - I assumed they were a cheap solution to airflow peculiarities. Anybody else know the correct reason?
