What car to buy - replacing a B5
Hi All I'm starting to have a little think about a newer car. and would welcome your opinions. I currently have a 98 B5 110 AFN Saloon (owned since 03), and a 52 B5.5 130 AVF Estate (owned since 14), and have been amazed and impressed with the combination of reliability (apart from the infamous oute...

Re: any common rattles in b5 dash
Could it be one of the fans inside the climatronic cabin temp sensor? I've got the a rattle and it goes when turning right, ive assumed the bearing bushing is knackered after thousands of hours of use

Re: Replacing an FRK with a DQS on a 130 Sport Estate ??
No i didn't have to do anything with the subframe. If your refering to the access for the lower bolt, You can fully undo the bottom mid bolt and push it fwd, it will hit the sump but will fully disengage from the box and spacer causing no hassles. No I haven't had a chance to do gears but that's mai...

Re: Replacing an FRK with a DQS on a 130 Sport Estate ??
Nope. This was deliberated as the input shaft snout is about 6m shorter, and this would gain the loss off length into the crank bearing. But my justification was would give you excess on all the bolts, change the linkage location and could effect the slave cylinder throw. I've still got nail the adj...

Re: Replacing an FRK with a DQS on a 130 Sport Estate ??
Hi All Right……. I’ve just attempted to undertake a replacement of a knackered FRK 6 speed in a 52 plate AVF powered 130 sport estate, with a DQS gearbox out of an A6 estate from a scrapyard. When on the ground it appeared that all gears could be selected in the DQS, there were no signs of leak...

power steering fluid reservoir screen
Hi all
Changed my steering pump today and whilst the reservoir was empty I noticed the internal screen was moving about in the res. I reseated it where I thought it should go, but on top up/ bleed it had moved again. Anybody know it's intended position and how it should remain there?

But considering ETKA/Vagcat lists the DQS as an alterative to the FRK with no other references listed, I think (fingers crossed) it should just be a direct replacement

Re: Replacing an FRK with a DQS on a 130 Sport Estate ??
Hi Well i hope your right but the place I'm getting it from I've been there previously and seen the new breakers on ramps and fluids being drained and batteries removed. Just assumed that it was part of the recycling process to remove as much contamination for when they eventually get crushed. What ...

Re: Replacing an FRK with a DQS on a 130 Sport Estate ??
Right its happening, I finally managed to find a DQS. So I am going to change the box, flywheel and clutch whilst its out and maybe the rear crank seal. As the box is coming from a breakers I'm guessing it wont have any oil in it, so was going to hot flush it with this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trip...

I forgot to update, but it turned out to be the lower aft arm ball joint that had excessive vertical play and clunked when changing from fwd to reverse or visa versa.

Centre arm rest / cubby lid - should it lock in position?
Hi all
Can anybody confirm if the cubby lid/elbow rest between the seats should lock in position? Mine slides backwards and forwards, but migrates back pretty quickly, just wondered if mine is bust.
Thanks

leaking door panels
Hi all
Looks like at least one of my door panel seals has secured to old age. I was wondering for those of you who have had the pleasure, if the following is similar to the new vw supplied item.

Ahhh so could the flange just be part of an insert that I need to remove?
ETKA doesn't show an insert, but i suppose it could be part of the bearing carrier assembly

HELP HELP HELP - Aft Lower arm issue
Evening all I have an issue! I've been getting a knock when going over bumps/dropped kerbs etc on a 52 plate B5.5 Estate Sport. I traced this to vertical play in the right lower aft guide link ball joint. So i ordered the Lemforder (part number 616440405) one from Carpartsforless via eBay. This afte...

Re: fit B5 folding cup-holder etc to B5.5????
Hi again Right I managed to find a B5 with the aluminium trim and had the cup holder and radio surround from it ( the one with the wider cubby at the bottom, radio mid and Climatronic top). Now here's the problem. On the B5 the support that the fascia and radio and Climatronic are attached/supported ...
