Re: turbo problems?

Spoke to a boffin today it turns out that it could be the valve inside the turbo houseing which controls the wastegate via the actuator/rod. Apparently they are prone to it. Turbo needs to come off in order for it to be replaced. Well if im going to all that trouble to remove the turbo,i just as wel...

Re: turbo problems?

Thanks for that, much apprecieated. Its definatley the actuator rod,i can move it a fair bit. It seems connected at both ends,so obviously it needs to be replaced, but before i do that i will talk to vw first. If the replacement is required do i have to remove the turbo or can i get access from undern...

Re: turbo problems?

Yes the rod feels connected at both ends but i can move it back and forth and from side to side,i reckon that this could well be my problem.
How much would this effect the performance on a scale of 1to 10. 10 being the highest.
Thanks to the above poster,i actually understood what you said
Cheers.

Re: turbo problems? rod

Ok quick update, after cutting my hands to bits i managed to squeeze my hand in by the turbo. I can move the rod from side to side,is this supposed to be? Or is supposed to be solid? The rod comes from a round thing and goes to something which i cant see. Nice technical terms im using but i dont know...

Re: turbo problems?

Thanks i will try that,i took some bits off today so it should be a bit easier now that i sort of know what to do .
I haven't tried the actuator because it didnt come up on vag-com so i assumed it would be ok. But will have a look at that as well. Will keep you posted.

Re: turbo problems?

Right, had the car vag-com today and it didnt show any codes. Checked all the hoses and everything is as it sould be. The maf senser was as clean as a whistle as was the throttle body. However ive still got a faint rattle when you rev the engine and it definatley appears to be in the turbo area. How ...

Re: turbo problems?

Thanks for the advice,i had a quick look this morning,it looks like i might have a small pipe that doesn't look like its fitting properly. Dont laugh but it fits at the bottom of a round bit which look like it connects to the turbo. There are so many pipes i couldn't really see. I think it might be ...

Hello all.Im a newbie here, ive got a 99 1.8t not sure what the engine code is. There is no smoke coming out from anywhere but ive been told that my turbo could be failing. Had the car for over a year but it doesn't seem overly quick. When you rev it there is what i can descibe as a sort of rattle(me...
