Some would say clear the codes and see which ones come back, but coil packs and plugs are relatively cheap it's up to you. Phone your local VW dealer and see if your car has had the recall for the coil packs, if not you may get four of them free, worth a phone call. Ok will do is it a simple case o...

Re: 2003 1.8t idle hunting!

Ok so I scanned my car and got 8 fault codes
17705
16684
16685
16686
16687
18010
16891
17544
So all seem to point to plugs, leads, fuel or vac leak! I did need a lead changing the other day is it best changing the other 3 and putting new plugs in?

Just had a quick look and found a damaged pipe! Runs from a L peace under the coolant tank into a hard pipe which gos into pass wing? It's flat in 2 parts and very worn! Doubt if any air is getting past how flat it is! I've got pics just gonna have a shower then I'll post!

Re: 2003 1.8t idle hunting!

VCDS is the best thing to scan for codes. I'd suspect a split/broken small bore vacuum pipe around the inlet manifold area. The pressure in the dipstick tube is possibly blocked breather pipes - a common issue. It's a good idea to take them off and clean them. Ok cheers I'll look at cleaning breath...
