I think I might have a cracked heater matrix
1998 B5, no water leaks, recirc flap working fine.
Yesterday and today the central part of the windscreen mists up with fan heater is on.
No wet carpets, no loss of coolant noticed as yet
I presume I need dashboard out to get a better look?

Exhaust down pipe flexi failed?
Hi all AVF B5.5 TDI 4Motion and when I start the car (bonnet up) I see a puff of exhaust soot out of the exhaust flexi just behind the engine! Not noticed that before... (although I don't normally have the bonnet up) Other symptoms are exhaust smells in the cabin under hard acceleration, a knocking ...

Re: B5.5 Climatronic reads -45 degrees C??
Thanks Karl
Yes it stops the aircon working.
Fortunately the past few days the sensor has been reading fine!
I'll pull the bumper off (yes I see the sensor through the grille) but where is the connector please?

Yes so I get an outside air temp error with vcds
I'll check connections and replace if necessary
Has anyone ever had to do anything other than that please?

B5.5 Climatronic reads -45 degrees C??
Hi All
When I turn the car on, the climatronic now reads anything from-5c to -45c outside air temp, when it's actually 20c outside
It slowly drifts back up
What's gone wrong please? And does this affect how hard the aircon works if it thinks it's Antarctica outside?

Re: Suspension arms
I have 18" wheels, lowered on coilovers and always used lemforder without issue My current kit has been on 5 years and still Fine. You definitely need to do up the inboard bolts with the car at its static ride height otherwise these will degrade more quickly. Id only recommend lemforder or meyl...

Re: Rear wiper - where is the one way valve?
Because 5years ago I thought it was a good idea :) Battery is in the boot, about 100kg weight removed from a standard Passat, I've done nutburgring trips etc etc and doubled the power output. Just did it because I could! I'll test a new tube from rear to front and see if it helps. I can also try the...

Re: Rear wiper - where is the one way valve?
Many thanks I've actually put my washer bottle (Hella 1ltr item) in the boot and am using the line that feeds the rear wiper to flow the other way and send water to the front Just thought I might be working against a one way valve (the wrong way) as it takes a while to flow and pressure not great, b...

That's great info, thanks for all your time
All the dials flicker when the key is turned to position 1 actually, so yes it sounds like that's the cause, I'll take a look!

Clock resets every time I start the car
Hi All The clock resets to 00:00 every time I start my B5.5 Why is this please? It should keep the time of course. Possibly also linked, the rev counter and speedo also flicker up to 1000rpm/10mph when I put the key in position 1 I believe this is the crank angle sensor from another discussion but j...

Best place to get 4motion suspension arms?
I'm after Lemforder or Meyle HD front and rear kits for my 4motion TDI B5.5
Front kits are readily available (but where do people recommend? £250 max for a complete Meyle HD kit?)
What about rears? Is a kit available with all bushes etc?
Many thanks

Rev counter needle flickers on startup
Hi All
Happy Xmas!
Every time I start my B5.5 tdi the rev counter needle 'flickers' up to around 1500RPM then settles down (but the engine doesn't rev at all, it's just the needle)
It also does it when the ignition is just turned to the first position.
Any ideas?
