Agreed and that's why I welded an old 3/8 socket on the top and it cured all the issues.

Yes open passenger door lean accross, lock, exit car, close door, DONE. Just make sure your keys are in the house or your pocket lol!!

Look for coroded wires at the multi plug in the footrest area just up from the CCM and if you lock the car by pressing the interior lock button whilst the drivers door is shut it locks without the alarm meaning a good nights sleep will be had by all.

6.5 years from a battery is poo to be fair. Must be all that extra electronic poo in newer cars as my Passat is on its factory battery, my bora factory battery lasted 12 years, and the wife's Toledo battery has lasted 10.
