Re: Chrome trims around windows

Sell it and buy an S spec, ours has no chrome apart from around the grille. Trouble is, I know this car inside out, its a great car and I could easily double the mileage without any major issues. Currently at 122k I know what you mean,we were thinking of selling our PD130,but the truth is it's relia...

Re: Fishing,anyone partake?

I go, and got back into it three seasons ago after a 20 year holiday from it. After 20 years away, wow how things have changed. In the late 80's and early 90's (started as a kid in the 70's though) I used to be heavily into 'carp' fishing but got so bored I gave up for 20 years. Despite the occasio...

Re: Fishing,anyone partake?

I fish mainly rivers for whatever takes my bait and smaller lakes for the same,I never managed to get into all the specimen hunting side. I used to fly fish for Carp and Sea Bass quite a bit but arthritis in my shoulders has kind of killed that off. Just bought my first pole, only a cheap 9m one to s...

Re: Fishing,anyone partake?

Used to do a bit of beach work when I lived down in Poole, but nowadays it's lakes and rivers. Must admit I miss the fresh Bass I used to catch around Poole harbour.

Re: My opinion of fk automotive lowering kits

I had the Hot Tuning 60/40 kit on my B4 and it was brilliant,2 years in my ownership with it on and now the car is with the guy who does the BMXing on here and as far as I know he's had no problems with them either despite all the extra weight the car now puts up with,I'd rate them highly.

Re: strange 51 plate b5 not 5.5 on gumtree

My B5 is a 2001 X Reg it was first registered less than 2 weeks before our 5.5 which was one of the first registered,I guess the one in the ad was just sat around for a few months before being sold and registered, probably because the 5.5 had been launched in the March.

Sorry for butting in here guys but do you all not find Bridgestones have a lot of road noise..I've got them on my Mazda...my mate has them on his Honda...and we both find them noisy... That was one of the problems I found, that and severe lack of grip and poor wear,my motor was lowered a little but ...

I guess the 1.8 I borrowed had something wrong with it then Adam,it only managed 35 on the run to Poole cruising at 60. Either way the 1.8t is still better :-P

Re: red estate pics

The 1.8t is more efficient and better on fuel than both the 1.8 non turbo and the 2.0,really unless you want a diesel it's the only sensible choice for the estate, mine sees low 40's on a run and around 30 in town. Here's a pic of mine. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c268/bootneck42/hdr_00017_0.jpg

Re: red estate pics

Yep,the 1.8 non turbo has 2 major things to watch out for, poor performance and poor fuel economy. :hyst Check all the usual B5 problems such as wet carpets and that all the electrics work, other than that just the usual pre buying checks you'd do on any car. I have a 1.8t Estate in Tornado Red,but sa...

Re: TYRES - 1.8T

I had those ER300 on my B4 and thought they were awful, noisy and wore very poorly,I replaced them with Hankook Ventus Prime 2's and it transformed the car, much quieter running and a lot better grip in both the wet and dry. Currently on my B5 1.8t I run Uniroyal Rain Expert and these seem to be very ...

Re: Headlight bulb suggestions please

I bought the night breakers a few months back and for the price they are good. Did loads of research before I purchased. Phillips do a better brighter bulb but it was more than double the price. I also read that night breakers don't last long but for the price and easy change can't complain. Better...

Re: Best brand oil in 1.8t?

Just to add my bit. To the OP use quantum long life 3, change every 10K or more often if you really feel the need you won't regret it. Never heard of TBN (Total Base Number ) until it was mentioned by TDCRservice. Having done some google searches within 5 minutes I came across this. http://www.pqia...

Re: Best brand oil in 1.8t?

I gave up a long time ago trying to understand a word TDCRservice writes,it's too hard work trying to read it and then decipher it,I put in my car what ~MY mechanic of 40+ years experience recommends, and that is Quantum, but then I guess he knows nothing about oils either.

Makes me realise how lucky I am,mine is a 1 owner car who had it flushed and oil changed every 6k on the dot,my mechanic checked my pick up not long after I bought it and said it looks like new,so I'm making sure I keep up the 6k flush and change it's been used to.

Empty the bottle, fill with plain water with some sterilising fluid in or one of the tablets. Run through pipes and washers and when empty again refill as normal with a good screenwash, sorted.
