Re: Poor MPG and power - 1.9 TDI AFN

90° on gauge doesn't proof that ecu side of temp sensor is working correctly. Temperature sensor on these engines are like 2in1. 1 part is giving signal to dash other part to ecu. If you have climatronic on your car, there was a way how to see temperature of engine in display. Normally all these t...

Re: Poor MPG and power - 1.9 TDI AFN

OP - have you replaced the thermostat? Hi Steviemac No I haven't replaced thermostat or the coolant temperature sender? The car has Climatronic and it seems to be working fine. The heater on the car is good. The temperature gauge on the dash goes up to where it should. Should I change both of these...

Water in passenger foot well saga!!

Living in south west France, it doesn't rain much so our 1999 Passat B5 rarely get's tested for leaks! However since owning the car (three years) I have been aware of the weak spots for a leaking Passat. The bulkhead drain holes have been cleaned out regularly and the pollen filter housing has been ...

Re: Quel catastrophe!!

Sorted the bumper today. Had a good look underneath and it was just the long clip in grille that had been popped out. No damage to the body of the bumper. It was only a glancing blow on the dog. The dog ran straight into the path of the car from the lane on the left and crossed to the right hand sid...

Re: Poor MPG and power - 1.9 TDI AFN

I have pierburg on mine, and it definitely didn't change things in wrong way. Maybe fuel consumption is the same as before with bosch part, but power has gone up little bit. Maybe it feels so because bosch unit was on end of its life. Many people have fitted pierburg maf and are happy with it. Good...

Quel catastrophe!!

We were out driving in rural France (where we live) in our B5 Wagon yesterday afternoon when a dog ran out into the road from a side lane when we were travelling at around 50mph on a French A road equivalent. The other half was driving and braked hard and swerved to try and avoid the dog (a Doberman...

CTS is coolant temperature sender?

Would a faulty CTS affect the gauge reading in the car or is it just to send a signal to the ecu? Is it easy to replace? Worth eliminating it.

Re: Poor MPG and power - 1.9 TDI AFN

Hey guys...have checked a few things on the car today to try and get to the bottom of the lack of power and poor mpg. I inspected the movement of the actuator rod on the turbo actuator when the car is started up and it seems to move freely. Also checked over all the vacuum lines that I could get to ...

Poor MPG and power - 1.9 TDI AFN

We have had some issues recently with our 1999 1.9 TDI AFN Wagon. The car has now covered 153,000 miles but has had full VW Service history for most of it's life. Had a couple of issues during the last month or so with the car going into limp mode, but it hasn't happened recently. However the proble...

Re: 1.9 tdi afn down on power?

Hello guys. Well my new Pierburg MAF arrived in the post today and took me 5 minutes to fit. Took the car for a test drive and it doesn't seem to be much different with the new one fitted, maybe a touch better. For me the MFA seems to be showing poor MPG. I know the MFA is not totally accurate, but ...

It doesn't look like reduced price, they never was about £200, so all that discount is bulsh*t ,from ECP bosch MAF is at about 100£ pluss you get some refund when you bring your old one back. I replaced my with pierburg MAF from Mercedes c220 and I'm 100% happy with it. Cost me about £45 with di...

Re: Water getting in behind passenger seat?

Yes. The pollen filter and its housing allow direct entry into the heater box. Within the heater box there are ducts that outlet under the front seats into the rear. There is obviously no pollen filter housing or air intake on the drivers side which explains why it is dry. Again, this is such a com...

Just been out to test for leaks on both the doors on the passenger side. Re: Water getting in behind passenger seat?

The pollen filter housing seal, very common for leaks. There is a lot of info on here about the pollen filter housing seal if you do a search. Haven't checked this to be fair, but it's at the front of the car in the bulkhead. How could the front passenger foot well stay dry, yet the rear passenger ...

Water getting in behind passenger seat?

We have had some really heavy rain here in SW France after twelve weeks with none at all and our Passat B5 1999 1.9tdi Wagon has developed a small puddle of water behind the passenger seat. I have read about blocked plenum chamber and that is all fine, so I don't think that is the problem. Also it i...

Want to purchase this Pierburg air flow meter will it fit?

I have been having issues with our 1999 Passat tdi 110BHP (AFN engine) being down on power so I want to replace the air flow meter as the car is probably on the original one and have read that most people have had success by changing the part for a new one. I read on here that the Pierburg sensors a...

Here you go mate Access will be easier if you take off the thick pipe between the MAF and the turbo The N75 is held on by two 10mm (iirc) nuts, between the front of the engine and the radiator fan The one-way valve will be visible in the same area I used masking tape tabs on the end of the pipes i ...

you could unplug the maf and see if things improve but it will throw a mil I'd also go along with the MAF but.... Hi Steviemac. That would be great as I'm stabbing in the dark a bit! I do have a Haynes but not sure if it will help with VAC pipes. The EGR valve is blanked off.
