Front shock/spring alignment
Hi everyone. I bought a black 2005 TDI Highline cheap a while back and decided to completely overhaul the front suspension as everything was a bit tired on it. It's been a while since I replaced the shocks on one of these and have a question. When reinstalling the spring seats, does the notch on the...

Re: New rear axles
So have ran into a little snag. The scribing around where the old bush was isn't very clear so can't seem to get the new bushes into exactly the same place. If I line one side up there's a little bit of a difference in the other side. It's taking a bit of guess work and time to centre it. Just hopin...

Re: New rear axles
Well got the axle all nicely stripped and cleaned with an air hammer and needler attachment. The bushes arrived in a Lemforder box but to me they aren't lemforder. No Lemforder symbol on them anywhere. Have contacted the seller, who is a reputable guy I've been buying from for years to see what the ...

Re: New rear axles
Yeah I scribed around the old bush before I unbolted them. Are the bolts a single use item or can they be re-used? It got rear discs, pads and shocks just under 2 years ago and the axle had the usual rust back then, but I noticed no rot. Even the shock bolt and nut was in good condition back then. I...

Re: New rear axles
Thanks for the list, much appreciated. I'm hoping the bolts may come with the new bushes but they might not. Have a guy who specializes in VW bolts and brackets trying to source them anyway just incase as I live nowhere near a dealer. Been a reasonably straightforward job so far apart from the odd s...

Re: New rear axles
Posted a reply earlier but it didn't post for some reason. Think I've found a decent 2nd hand one, guy said on the phone it was pretty solid. Have new SKF hubs and Lemforder bushes bought for a reasonable price. Might have to go to VW for bolts for the bushes though

Re: New rear axles
Thanks, been checking the oe part number and all the aftermarket ones and coming up with nothing. Very strange that these aren't as freely available as a polo one.
I may have found a good 2nd hand one though. Going to check it tomorrow

New rear axles
Hi everyone. My dads otherwise mint 2002 TDi came to a halt last week when the axle broke off at the hub. Luckily they were turning at slow speed when it happened. The axle on the left side was completely and utterly rotten. The car really is mint, with original wings etc so we're a bit gobsmacked t...

Re: Odd turbo whistle
Quickly plumbed a small vacuum gauge into the EGR line. Sorry made a hash of that statement below. It's open when the car idles from cold. Temperature hits 70 deg or so it closes. Then opens again after a bit but blipping throttle causes it to close. I'll hook the diagnostics up and see exactly what...

Re: Odd turbo whistle
So did a bit more digging. No fault codes anywhere btw. Both vacuum solenoids working ok. The EGR does close when it hits 70 deg or so, but then opens again under load so that's working fine. Blanked off the EGR pipe at the manifold and the whistle is constant. Am taking a guess this may be a minor ...

Re: Is this a good battery for my 2002 tdi 130bhp estate?
Tayna are a first class company to get batteries from. Bit expensive for postage over to N.ireland but still can work out cheaper.
Those Yuasa YBX are brilliant. Had one for 8 years in an X5 and it's now in my shed as a test battery

Re: My B5.5 and I.. In it for the long haul...
This thread is great. Almost the same as my journey with the Passat. I bought mine for £180 about 5 years ago needing a head gasket. Got it sorted and gradually tidied the bodywork up as the previous owner crashed through a fence and badly scraped the bonnet and wings. Can't find a set of Sport whee...

Re: Odd turbo whistle
Thanks for the reply. I have noticed the egr does close when it's sitting idling and gets to temperature so must dig further into this incase there's a faulty vacuum valve or something. When I get access to the car again I'll blank off the egr pipe at the manifold too. Would be nice to get it sorted...

Re: Odd turbo whistle
Always thought the egr was temperature related. This one always seems to be open when the car is cold and then closes when it's heated up. I have noticed this when the car is sitting idling after starting up from cold and left to heat up Yeah the car is quiet even when driving when the egr is open. ...

Re: Head Unit
Yeah there was actually an adapter and cage came with it as the guy had it in a Passat. Adapters are only a few quid anyhow. If you do go for one make sure the microphone comes with it. Alpine supply a really good quality mic with them.

Re: Odd turbo whistle
Yeah all hoses are good, no boost leaks anywhere. All exhaust bolts tight. It's definitely the kind of whistle you'd hear when the turbo is dying but only when the EGR is shut

Odd turbo whistle
Hi all, long time lurker on here, first time poster. Car in question is a 2002 AVB (100bhp) During lockdown I stripped the turbo apart as it had some limp mode issues. Sure enough the VNT mechanism was badly coked up. There wasn't an awful lot of play in the turbo shaft. Also cleaned out the inlet a...
