No I swapped it for a used one. The steering rack was knackered too so that had to come out. The garage said I was lucky as the rack would have had to be dropped to get the egr out. Lucky I said ha yeah right.

Dont get me wrong. This B7 passat is the best car ive owned and my last car was a brand new BMW 3 series (company car). I just cant keep justifying its faults and the costs, every 6 months its a big bill for someomething or other, gearbox, ECU, now this.

Ive had enough of the bloody thing now. Im going to sort it out and get rid of it

My 2011 passat 2.0 TDI has just got through its MOT with an advisory of a little play in the steering. They said they checked the obvious stuff and couldnt see a reason. I have to say i can easily notice it myself now. Any common areas i should be looking at?

Yeah it did in the end. I got a full wiring diagram and traced every wire involved in powering the ECU. I was missing a positive feed to a relay and I think the garage missed it. I'm quickly running out of options. The signal voltage to switch the relay is apparently not there which does point to the ecu or the wiring. I just think there might be other elements or earth points in play.

Yes it's with them now. The mechanic was able to bypass a relay and power up the ecu. It's some double loop thing. Might be an option if someone is stuck

Ha. VW response is that I should have sent the car to them. I said yes for you to not actually figure things out and just say it needs this and that. In the gearbox example they even said we wouldnt repair it, it would be a replacement and even if they discounted it, it would have still been cheaper...

I'm in west lancashire. I'm plan was to send the ecu off to ecutesting.com who have quoted £300 for a repair Inc lifetime warranty. It shouldn't require any further programming that way. No it read some stuff. It picked up the bad clutch switch and the aftermarket stereo etc. I don't have a fuse map for the car so I literally checked every fuse and found none dead. Does anyone have a map?
