You're not kidding, £324 for a full loom!
May look into getting it repaired if possible.

Re: BMR 170 running issues.HELP!
Ok, just checked the loom and it doesn't look very good.
The insulation is coming away in several places with exposed wires going into the sensor next to the exhaust pressure sensor behind the oil filler cap. Any idea what this is? Looks like a new loom then!

Just noticed your replies.
COT51E - no I haven't had the cam torsion values checked yet. Wouldn't this effect the car all the time and not intermittently? Next time I'm passing the garage I'll ask get them to have a look.

Re: BMR 170 running issues.
Hi guys,
This is still a problem and would really appreciate some help as I've got a long road trip coming up and I'm getting desperate!
The symptoms are as follows:
High idle speed (950-1000rpm).
Muted injector noise, boomy exhaust and more turbo whine.
Car drives very lumpy, not down on power ...

Re: BMR 170 running issues.
It's still a mystery.
I had it in for it's Mot at a VW specialist and asked them to give it a good going over and they found nothing. (I don't get any smoke BTW, just a smell at tickover).
It's that intermittent it's hard to pin down.
Yesterday I was bimbling around the Lakes on holiday and it ...

Re: BMR 170 running issues.
It's the fumes that are concerning me most tbh. I've got two young kids and don't want them breathing that in (which is also why I don't want to remove the DPF or EGR).
But I don't understand why am I only getting fumes in the car when it's running badly? and even then just through the vents and ...

Re: BMR 170 running issues.
Don't think it's the DPF as like I mentioned I've never had the light come on in 70k of driving as I do a lot of motorway miles and it's been cleaned out anyway. May have to try a new EGR valve though.

BMR 170 running issues.HELP!
Hi all,
I would very much appreciate some help on a problem with my 57 tdi SEL 170 DSG.
It can be running really well then suddenly become very lumpy and sluggish to drive. When this happens the engine note becomes very muted (you can barely hear the injectors) and it idles either very high ...

Eibach/Bilstein from Germany
Noticed these http://www.ebay.de/itm/EIBACH-BILSTEIN-Komfort-Fahrwerk-B4-30mm-ABE-fur-VW-Passat-3C-ab2005-/390207229541?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item5ada29ce65 on German ebay and was wondering if anyone had any experience of buying from there. The shocks are standard Bilstien B4's but I thought that the ...

Re: Oil pressure - STOP ENGINE
Had been thinking of fitting the modified balancer shaft and 100mm hex key to my 80000 mile 57 170pd at my next service as a precautionary measure for a while when the dreaded Oil Pressure - STOP ENGINE message came up. I had just pulled out of a junction and was only doing about 20mph so was able ...

Re: Boot rust issue VW aware!!
Just got my 57 plate back after being repaired and am very happy with the work. Was initialy offered 75% contribution from VW but negotiated a further 18% from the dealer using 'brand loyalty' as a bargaining tool (full VW history, good relationship with dealer). Tried for 100% but was told in ...

Re: Mad spring air bags
Have not used the MAD bags but did have some Monroe load levelling rear shocks on my old B5.5 estate and they were great. They work like an ordinary shock until you pressurize them using the attached airline (I used a cheap 12v compressor) and the rear raises to the level you want depending on the ...

Re: All season tyres
Bought a set of Hankook Optimo 4s All seasons 2 months ago for my SEL sport (235/45 17) and they are excellent. Just as quiet/comfortable as the previous Avon AV5's but with full sipes for the snow and they are particually good at dealing with standing water. I wanted a tyre to deal with the winter ...

I asked my local towbar fitter (who fits fixed towbars for a VW dealer) the same question and he said he's never had any problems. Had mine on for a couple of months now (B6) and it's fine.

Re: oem wood rim wheel?
Heres mine, it does add to 'ambience' of the interior (if your into wood and leather) but your hands burn in the summer and stick to it in the winter! But I do like the feel of it and find myself fondling it when no ones watching :ymblushing:

Re: Dodge temp guage!
My B5.5 Pd130 sometimes had a very erratic idle. Plugged it into VAG.com which threw up a faulty temp sender. Changed the sender and now the idle is fine but the temp gauge only works when it feels like it! (it was fine before).

Re: Noisy TDi
The water pump was done recently with the timing belt, its always had VW spec PD oil and the only fault code was a coolant temp sender whch I did last week. Had a VW tech listen to it today and he said if it drives ok not to worry about it.

I have a 2002 sport estate (AVF engine) with 113000 miles on it. Lately the engine seems very rattley - nothing major just very tappety. Noticed it even more after my bro showed me his 2003 SE with 80000 miles and his sounds as sweet as a nut. It has been looked after regardless of cost (oil change ...

Cool looking camper you have there. Yes it is remapped and it makes a big difference, the only downside is lack of traction in the wet but that won't be a problem with a 4mo. Passats make good towcars partly because they are a big heavy lump of a car - 1640kg for an estate in sport trim without any ...

Re: 2.5 V6 TDI 4MOTION???????????
I woud'nt worry about the 1.9 being underpowered, especially if it has been remapped. In the four years i've had mine i've towed fully loaded (two kids, dogs etc) all over the country and never once wished I had a bigger engine. Remember, when towing its not acceleration thats important but the ...
