Dan,
Where in the Uk are you? Would be recommended getting someone with VCDS or similar to scan the Passat for codes

Re: Replacing Parking Light B6
You've got the Xenon type as opposed to a Halogen Headlight.
I've only ever replaced the parking lights when I pulled the front bumper off to do the D1S xenon bulb so unsure if it can be done in situ (I'd imagine you could but never checked)

Re: Possible blown engine
Another thing that crossed my mind, if the cambelt was just done, has the tensioner stud in the head become loose and allowed the timing to move?
Pop the left cover off slightly (one over the cam sprockets) and feel the tension on the belt (I've had that stud loosen twice)

VCDS which is also known as Vag Com, don't skimp on clone leads.
Unless you're in need of something that does multiple manufacturers or is it purely for a VAG vehicle?

Re: Aftermarket radio
VCDS (the full version) can reset the light, as said above, the small light below the radio (fitted into the surround) is linked to the air bag system so an ignition on when it was removed probably accounts to the light being on.

On mine I used a fuse holder with a break our wire from the driver side fuse box - I pulled the compartment off to allow for better access. I've also seen some do a fuse on the engine bay but as I was installing a dash cam too I just used break out wires. You'll need to isolate a switched live for t...

Do you know what they should be torqued to? The studs where replaced but don't think lock tight was used Sent from my SM-J610FN using Tapatalk https://pmmonline.co.uk/technical/installing-checking-new-timing-belt-tensioner-stud/ Some say the stud is best left alone if still tight in the head. Re: Front Drop Link Replacement
Try undoing it with a 18mm socket first, all four spun when I tried. First one I used an able grinder on however was easier for me to ram a pair of mole grips onto the ball/cup side (there's a circular disc/washer you can get a grip into) and then just use a 18mm to drop it off. My replacement ones ...

Re: manual 6 speed gears hard to select
In the engine bay under the air box, you'll see the gear linkages that come from the back of the bulkhead (they go under the bulkhead via the tunnel but are protected by the exhaust heat shield). There is adjustment on the ends but I'm not sure what one does first and reverse. My cable totally rippe...

Re: Oil leaks, most common areas??
Might be an idea to use engine degreaser and pressure wash the engine first, then monitor and check where any oil is coming from. Looking down from the top, you should hopefully be able to see where roughly (ie front or back) it is coming from (back would be harder). If you have a boost leak you may...

Re: Ballast Replacement
Pulling the bumper off seems hard but it's very simple once you've done it a few times. I usually lean it out of the way so I dont have to remove the headlight washer tubes. Once the under tray is off, inner wheel arches (I usually undo the forward screws), then under the headlight (looking towards ...

Re: EPB alarm sounding but no actual fault
Where in the country are you? Youd want to do a fault scan using VCDS.
Mine has the EPB sign on the dash (yellow light) along with a error message on the display however they both still work fine.

Route of boot release cable - saloon b5.5
Hi guys, Wondering if you could help. The old man decided to remove the rear cable off his saloon b5.5 for me to order a new cable (end snapped). Lo and behold he's forgotten the route of the cable. With the boot open, the cable attaches to the latch, then goes via the key lock and into the actuator...

Re: Change Oil Pump ? Or Not ?
Changing just the hex drive (which would be 77mm long) will not rectify the issue. The balance shaft which the hex key goes into is also to blame - there are a few threads on here about it. What you want is the longer solid 100mm hex drive, a regenerated balance shaft, gasket sealant and a new set o...

For anyone reading, would anyone know what would happen if I disconnect the ASV via the plug on the side? Its constantly spinning when I put the ignition on.

Re: Injector Issue - will it eventually stop?
Also, Looking at the injector fault code 17678, it occurred at 98k miles... I'm now on 99k so I can only but imagine it has been a stored fault code which hasn't put anything on the dash? The over boost happened on the way back from Dartford yesterday and the ASV error occurred 6 miles ago. Would th...

Injector Issue & ASV - will it eventually stop?
Good evening gents (and ladies if there are any!) Today my lovely 06 Passat (2.0 TDi BKP) decided it would flag up a flashing coil light (and display engine workshop) on the way to work. The usual turn off and restart didn't remove it (I have at times had an over boost error code) and subsequently, ...

Re: Can 'o' Worms Time...tyre pressures
I've always sat at 38 all round on the 225/40/18, on the van I've got higher load rated tyres and increase the pressure accordingly.
