Re: Yellow Steering Wheel Light, Engine Not turning, Car Won't Lock
Recovery man reckons Ignition Control Module locked up, battery disconnected and reconnected to reset it. It'll be going for a fault code check and further scrutiny in the new year.

Yellow Steering Wheel Light, Engine Not turning, Car Won't Lock
Good morning, The Mrs took the B6 to work today, it seemingly got to her place of work with no problems. It then suddenly threw a bit of a wobbler, and wouldn't lock on the remote. From what she has told me, when the key is inserted the yellow steering wheel light comes on and the engine won't turn ...

Re: Rage Against The Machines! SPACE TO VENT HERE
The number of people in my area with one non functional brake light/head light is ridiculous. Giving them a flash of the headlights to warn them does nothing, if they are too brain dead to see half of the lane is in total darkness then visual gestures will almost certainly go unheeded. Neglected roa...

Re: Could be a broken spring?
Sorry to jump in, I think I have a snapped front spring as well. Same spring position snapped a year ago, in the process of taking it back for replacement again. I know springs are a weak point on the Passat, but a year is poor. Has anyone else replaced the VW supplied springs with aftermarkets on a...

Service Indicator 'Mileage Due'
Good afternoon all, My 2006 B6 was serviced in November last year (2017) by my trusted indy, all is well so far. When the fob is inserted, I would get a dashboard message reading "7900 miles to next service" - fair enough. I took it a long run to visit family before Christmas, no problems ...

Re: Are B6 Passats really that bad?
Bought my 2006 B6 three and a bit years ago at 65k, now on 99k. It hasn't broke down on me, but its had a few hefty repairs: - EGR valve clogged, replaced at £110 fitted myself - Clutch/DMF replaced, £700 in labour - All four springs replaced due to snapping, £570 in total - 1 x rear brake calliper ...

Re: Major electrical failure. Help needed
When my battery started to give up 2 months ago, it suffered no gradual degradation of systems function (that I could see anyway..). It only became apparent when the cranking speed was a bit slower than usual on startup, and I came back to it at the supermarket one day to find it needed a jump start...

Re: Broken Springs
Thanks for your responses everyone. The (independent) garage recommended renewing the front springs as a pair, saves a second trip when the intact spring eventually goes. Both were original from build, and it showed in the condition of the spring itself as well as the top bearings and mounts, which ...

Broken Springs
Recently, the front passenger side spring snapped on my B6. I know springs (rear especially) are a weak point and can snap suddenly. However, my other half's VW Fox also suffered from a snapped front passenger side spring a few months ago. I put the Fox's spring down to wear and tear / one of those ...

Re: BXE Hot Start Clattering Noise
Hopefully it's not about to shed a leg through your engine casing! BXE engines have an issue with the top journal bearings and a few have worn, rattled, jammed and spat a con rod out. This is a worst case scenario however but something you may want to have checked. Sump removal and inspection of th...

BXE Hot Start Clattering Noise
Good evening all, I've noticed recently that when I start the engine when warm, ie from 70C upwards on the coolant temp gauge, there is an ominous sounding splutter/rattle/clattering at the moment of firing. It only lasts a quarter of a second or so, and it doesn't seem to inhibit the engine from ru...

Re: How far do you go with a full tank?
I have a 1.9 tdi bxe engine on 166,000 miles and I do mixed miles dual carriage way and rural roads I get between 650 and 700 miles to a tank usually sometimes a little more than 700 not much My Passat is similar, except mines only has 91k miles. It spends most of its life on the M11/A14 and usuall...

Re: Brake Defects
This situation, at your MOT, is the first time you knew of the bad condition of the braking system? Otherwise you drove in ignorance of your brakes' condition? If there had been a major brake service 13 months ago by previous owner, and that was at a main dealer or VW indie, then your recourse is w...

Brake Defects
Has anybody had this kind of bother with brakes before? At the latest MOT, my trusty B6 disgraced itself badly. It failed the brake performance test under heavy braking only (not noticeable under light braking), so the technician investigated the cause. He discovered both front brake discs had odd w...

Washed mine this afternoon. Still not adjusting to Cambridgeshire water quality, and finding it going very streaky once dried out. Then 2 hours later a bird shat on it.

Re: egr clean and homemade delete
Is this EGR valve the same on 1.9 PD engines? Got a fault code stating that EGR had insufficient flow, so I reckon I'll have to give it a wee clean out. Checking it is similar on my BXE before taking it apart. Did you have any issues with difficult to access bolts on the underside? Do any bits need ...

Re: B8 Passat. Pre-launch pictures
Saloon reminds me of the 97-03 generation mitsubishi galant (which is good IMO). Looks a bit more aggressively styled than recent generations. pity it's probably exclusive to the top of the range as suggested a few posts up.

maybe just the way im looking at it but in the first picture it looks as if it has been repaired before? is that paint between the bumper and panel? It was rear ended when with the previous owner, and the bumper was either replaced or repaired (will try to find out), more likely the latter judging ...

Re: The range to empty game
I also reset the trip meter after every fill up, typically I get about 670-680 miles out of a tank. The estimated range is pretty optimistic I think, it tells me with 1/32 of a tank left that I can cover 40 miles, given that my nearest shell is 15 miles away I'd rather not chance it! On one fill up ...

Re: B6 Body corrosion
Afternoon, finally managed to get some pics of the affected areas. Looks pretty bad, think a paint shop will be the best option to restore it and a few very subtle paint chips and scratches. It definitely looks worn rather than a result of defective manufacture fortunately.

Re: Brake pads & discs all round.
At the last service I had an advisory to replace the discs due to wear (pads still had 50-60% life left though). Approved dealer quoted £289 for front discs and pads, £237 for rears. That obviously includes labour, but compared to the prices being bandied about here it seems excessive. What sort o...
