Did you ever get to the bottom of this mate?

I've been looking at other people's experiences on this forum and others but I'm not sure what the best way is to fix it. Just replace the motor? Replace the caliper and motor? Is there a seal that needs replaced too?

The noise turned out to be both front shocks. I recently fitted OEM VW sport springs to the front and rear and it consequently caused the front shocks to fail. Not bad for 78k though. The 2.0TSI from 09 onwards might be a different engine than the earlier 2.0TFSI engine. It might not have the diverter valve problem.

I'll have a check at all the components when I get a chance, but it doesn't seem like the CV joint. The noise is in conjunction with crappy handling, so I'm thinking wishbone bushes.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work for you. Are the fans etc turning on with the air-con? If not it could be the G65 sensor or the fans themselves. If not, and you can get a working compressor bought and fitted for cheap, then I would just replace the compressor.
