Fitting a tow bar hassle ?

Can anyone please tell me if it is a lot of hassle fitting a tow bar to a 1998 saloon tdi. Wondered if the electric connectiosn are hidden or is it splice into current wires also mounting points.

Getting quotes around 190-220 for supply and fit

Couple of issues. The spare key fob that I use occasionally appears not to work. Can you change the battery yourself as I took it apart (black frob with fold out key and 2 buttons top and bottom) but I couldnt see anything resembling a battery or is there something else to try first before I go ...

will look at soldering them and putting some heatshrink wrap on them. This morning we could only open the 2 front doors and wife was going nuts as she was running late and needed to get the kids to nursery ...

Ok So i finally got around to sorting this out

opened the control box - dry inside no sign of damage

I unwrapped all the black cable wrap that covers the big trunk of wires that runs to the control box under the passeneger seat I found there are 3 different "splices" where several wires are all ...

last year we had a major spill into the passenger footwell - turned out underneath the battery was full of water. Drained and Cleaned it all out and also found the seal had gone around pollen filter. Had a new seal installed by VW and dried it all out .

Since then its been fine until couple weeks ...

well I never got a chance to look at the car as the inlaws came down

however Tuesday morning all the locking started working again

now it has been raining between the sunshine so I have got no idea whats going on with it as I havent touched anything since my last post

guess see how long it lasts ...

the aricon comperessor on ours has gone bent

VAG want nearly a grand to replace (its seized) local aircon specilalist want £650 includes clean out regas etc

how much did you pay for your compressor ? tempted to get an ebay one ro frmo scrappy but dont know if I should take the risk or not

Well I whipped the door card off and came face to face with some sort of silver metal panel

undid the bolts and couldnt get the dam thing off to see behind it

Put it back together and going to book it in somewhere. Cant get the dam back doors open as the kid locks are on, fuel release cap is an ...

not touched anything on the car stereo wise etc

I read on a forum that they passasts some ahve a c/l vacum pump thingy liek mk3 golfs ? maybe i got muddled upwith older passats ?

will check the light issue later on with the key

Any one point me in the right direction as I am a bit confused with my wifes S plate 19.tdi se passat

The remote keyfobs do not operate the central locking anymore and turning the key does not operate the c/ locking (the fobs are still syncronised to the car ). However the alarm still arms and ...

Drivers heated door mirror

Looks like the drivers door mirror has packed in when it comes to heating up

Passenger one still works and the electric motors still work on both

Any idea how to remove the glass and or what to check or could be the problem ?

Back seat removal

Sorry another question but its kind of related to my flood (Haynes manual is on shopping list for weekend)

How do I remove the rear bench seat from my S plate passat (B5) I need to be able to lift up the carpet and I cant see a way to remove the bench part

Ok so was an inch of water slopping around the battery (now sorted)

Removed pollen filter and there was a bit of water and leaves inside it. I noticed the foam seal was half hanging out and soaking wet so I guess thats where else its been running in from.

Going to to get it to vw garage for a new ...

We have had our 1.9TDI S plate passat for a couple of months now. Got it from the father in law.

Yesterday i noticed rear side passenger carpet was soaking wet. Checked doors and windows all seals appear fine and the window was up. I vaxd the carpet and that was that

Thanx for the replies

Local VW garage confirmed today compressor has seized which prolly explains why belt was removed

They want £1300 to replace renew etc lol

I said thankyou but I think I will just put the window down if it gets too hot :wink:

i heard a sugestion its an aircon belt - possible that its a seized compressor so the belt has been removed

Will have to ask father in law

Definately appears to be no belt between the 2 pullys with the arrows

Father in law gave us his old S plate Passat 1.9 TDI (110 BHP) version

When i had a look inside the engine bay (please bear with me I am not to great on mechanics) I could see a couple of pullys that appear to not have a belt on them.

Now everything on the car works fine but seems odd to have 2 ...
