I had exactly the same thing - the motor will also stumble when you try to rev it. I've gone back to my original clocks but raced the faulty temp and fuel gauge to a dry joint on the PCB.

Anyone know if Johnboy got any further with this? I've recently bought a B4 CL estate with the AAZ engine, to replace my B3 L estate (1.8 petrol). I'd like to know how to increase the power and torque of the AAZ to the same levels (or higher!) than the petrol one. I use the B3 for towing a caravan, ...

On mine there is a dry joint on the PCB, and it knocks out the complete left hand side of the cluster. I get no temp gauge, fuel gauge or warning lights. I'm having the cluster out to re solder it over the weekend. it works if I give it a squeeze. You could have a dry joint too?

I bought a GT kit off Mocco the other week for my B3, and thought I'd eye it up against my B4, just to see what it's like. I reckon if you separate the arch off the piece that lines up with the side trim, it'll fit.

But as said before, fix the rust first.

It might be worth posting on the Mk1 Golf owners club forum - it their Annual Gathering this weekend in Uttoxeter. I'm going with my better half in her cab, so I'll look out for this car, or even bits from it. I'll get her to post a link to here on their forum when I'm back this evening.

I've got a moist rear passenger footwell too - but my rear washer squirter isn't working at the moment, so I assumed the pipe had split.
