Just avoid the Chinese rubbish on Ebay that's all, they look good spec and looks wise, but are horrendous when you get them installed, cheap and nasty!
Stick with proper Japanese brands, JVC, Alpine, Sony, Kenwood and if you must, Pioneer (probably the worst of a good bunch)...

Re: Standard headunit
I work with car audio everyday and see loads of pee'd off people with these Chinese headunits, I usually end up taking them out for them and installing proper Japanese ones.

They are not as bad as have been made out, I had a stuck cam adjuster and it took me two hours to take the solenoid out and free it up! Stay clear of autos, they are on the limit of power, and get it remapped, it transforms the car. Service wise they take 8.5 litres if stupid expensive oil every 5k...

Looks tasty, but at 270-300bhp, how reliable will the engine be though if even the w8 can't take the heat of 275bhp?

Re: Passat W8, good idea or not?
Crappy German reliability and engineering again ay? I'm starting to wonder if a Saab 9 5 Aero might be a more reliable alternative (although they are painfully dull cars to look at).

Passat W8, good idea or not?
Hi folks, might be getting my hands on a few quid and am thinking about a W8. What is the crack with the W8 engine, are they another ropey failure or are they a decent, reliable engine?
Cheers folks!

Re: MAJOR Mayo Issue!! Help!
Update: Took the breather pipes off yesterday and they were absolutely chocked full of gunk, literally blocked solid! I need to work out how you get the lower pipes off without a major fanny on taking the inlet manifold off and freezing my balls off for hours in the street doing so! Anyway. really a...

Weird moaning donkey sound?
Another problem!! My steering has started making the most alarming kind of sound when I am turning the wheel when parking etc. It can only be described as sounding like a donkey being touched inappropriately, a kind of loud eeorre/screechong noise! Someone mentioned the UJ at the base of the steerin...

Re: B5.5 drivers window switch fix.
Am I missing something, what's the point of taking the switch panel off if you're not going to take it to bits? How's taking it off and putting it back on going to solve the problem of dirty switch connections?

Don't mean to sound like a willy here, but why would you want to roll all your windows up or down at once from the fab anyway? when would you ever want to do this?

Aren't the standard AWT 150hp engines different to the other 1.8t engines though? I heard they were only safe to 200hp or so..

Re: MAJOR Mayo Issue!! Help!
Clean out all the positive crankcase ventilation pipes, your poor engine can't breath and the mayo is the cause of it. You will find that it needs cleaned around two/three times a year, this can also cause the rocker cover gasket to leak, maybe where your oil is disappearing to. I thought it may be...

MAJOR Mayo Issue!! Help!
Ever since I got my 2001 Passat 1.8t it has tended to get a creamy dipstick, I did a bit of research and couldnt really get any definitive answers so I forgot about it carried on, did a full service hoping it would cure it, it didn't. Recently the problem seems to be getting worse in the cold weathe...

Never liked the styling of the RX8, thought it was too fussy and had some weird proportions, RX7 was a much nicer looking car I think (just my opinion)

Re: speaker upgrade?
You can do more harm powering a set of decent speakers with a poo amp than powering a set of poo speakers with a decent amp as a poo amp will "clip" when the going gets tough which is famous for killing voice coils on speakers. The problem is is that the standard headunit is pretty rubbish...
