Only change one thing at a time otherwise you'll never know what the problem was!

Re: Egr delete advice
Think it needs to be blanked off/plugged. I helped my brother fit a 'proper' egr valve delete kit to his Freelander. The blanking plate had a solid nipple on it to which the vac pipe was fitted. The vac opens and closes the valve - delete the valve and the pipe is redundant.

Also, bear in mind that this forum is open to everyone with basic internet access, a FB page would be limited to those who 'do' FB or who want to 'do' FB.

Re: Brakes
So is it just the feel through the pedal that's the problem? The brakes themselves working OK? Older VWs have always had a poor pedal feel in my experience (Mk2 Polo, Mk2 Golf, Mk2 Jetta, Mk2 Passat, Mk2 Audi 80 and Mk4/B4 Passat) but the actual braking performance has always been good.

If it has the immobiliser with the chip in the key, try the spare key - unlikely but something may have gone wrong with the chip?

Re: How available are B3, B4 estates??
All my BD TDi Est has cost me over and above normal running costs (on veggie oil that's not much) is two tyres, rear shocks, tailgate struts and a starter motor, just coming up to 3 years ownership.
Very satisfied with that.

Re: Rear shock absorber replacement
I did this on my B4 estate about 2 years ago. Unfortunately all I can say is good luck, be patient, and once it's done, try to erase the experience from your memory (as I have). The actual damper replacement is a piece of cake, it's the trim that's a pain.

Re: AAZ EGR blanking
Hope you get it sorted mate. Out of interest, what do you do with the pipework that no longer connects there? Is it just junk or do you have to blank it off in any way? I ask because I helped my brother fit an EGR blank to his Freelander and we also had to blank off a vacuum pipe. The kit he had bla...

Take the pipe to a local hydraulic hose place (yellow pages/Google to find one). They should be able to knock one up for you on the spot - usually cheaper than getting one from dealer or parts place.

Re: sell or split
Keep it, sell the bits you don't need and use the money to sort the few little issues. When you say 140,000k do you mean 140,000 km or 140,000 (140k) miles? Oops, meant 140k (miles) sorry. I see your point, but with the car in the condition it's in i'd like to build something with a twist. I'm thin...
