Re: Tailgate won’t open after flat battery
Afraid not, no.
Bizarrely the key fob only locks and unlocks the driver’s door on the remote function. If I put the key into the driver’s door lock, I can open and close all four doors (does nothing for the tailgate sadly). No idea what’s going on here.

Re: Tailgate won’t open after flat battery
Thanks for the reply.
Tried that unfortunately with no success. When the car is locked / unlocked there’s no sound or action in the tailgate lock at all. Even when the finger grip is squeeze, there’s nothing happening and no action / sound as you’d normally get. Bizarre

Tailgate won’t open after flat battery
Hello All, Went away for a week and came back to a flat battery (might have left dashcam on). Jump leads were in the boot so used the key to manually open the boot to get them (it’s the estate model). Jump started the car and battery now charged / charging without issue. However, now the tailgate wo...

Re: Faulty parking sensor
By way of an update. I managed to fix it. There was a small plastic panel hold on at four points on the underside at the far offside. Once that was removed I was able to reach up and unplug the dodgy sensor and replace. With nearly 18 years of corrosion and exposure things were hard to budge (and th...

Thankyou, I’ll try the cleaning method you suggested. I have seen the WD40 route suggested on numerous YouTube videos but am dubious at best about that!

Noted, thankyou. I’ll give it my best shot. Bizarrely, they started working again for a day then stopped again.

Re: Faulty parking sensor
Thankyou Maclee, I have ordered the sensor that looks like the one on the car at the moment, which is the right hand picture you posted. Mine are in the lower black portion of the bumper so hopefully I won’t need to paint them (if it is supplied in black that is!). I’ll figure out how to remove the ...

Faulty parking sensor
Hello all, Still putting miles on my 2005 AWX estate and it never misses a beat! Can I pick your brains? The offside rear parking sensor has failed and I want yo replace it myself. I need to remove it to firstly get the part number, and secondly to fit a new one when purchased. Does anyone have any ...

Power steering fluid change
Hello, Looking to do a bit of preventative maintainance on my 2005 Passat (B5.5), namely the power steering fluid. I’m pretty sure it’s the original fluid (so nearly 15 years and 132000 miles old). No issues with steering, pump, leaks or noise etc. What are people’s thoughts on the turkey baster met...

Re: Discs and pads
One last thing, got the dimensions of the discs but I’m getting a choice of two types of pads.....”teves” or “Lucas”. Any way to tell what I need so you can order them in advance of doing them?

Re: Discs and pads
Thank you. Is there more than one type of fitment for the pads / discs? Only ask as when I put my car’s details into the ECP website, it alerts me to this possibility? If so is there a simple way to see which brakes I have? Going to try and do them myself.

Discs and pads
Hello all, After recommendations for good quality discs and pads all round for my 2005 b5.5 tdi estate (standard set up). Fully subscribe to the mantra that brakes are not an area you should try to skimp on, but at the same time why spend more if you don’t have to! Will go with the consensus and exp...

Faulty cigarette lighter socket
Hello, Annoyingly, the front cigarette lighter socket in my 2005 B5.5 Passat has become faulty. I don't smoke but like most people use it to charge a phone. It will work with a lot of fiddling with one phone charger I have but is very sensitive to movement (rules out fuse). So much so, to be useless...

Re: Ouick oil question / advice
Thanks Gazwould, Have just read that thread you referenced now (took two cups of tea mind!!). In summary it looks like using the 507.00 on the yearly / 10k mile oil changes gives the best of both worlds which is what I do regardless of oil used anyway. Any minor negatives (if they exist) are probabl...

Ouick oil question / advice
Hello all, I'll be brief..... THE CAR: 2005 Passat tdi AWX with 125k miles. Well looked afterr, driven with mechanical sympathy and serviced every 8-10k miles constantly with Quantum 5w 40 (505.01 I believe). I plan to carry on with this mileage between oil changes regardless of oil used (see below)...

You're right, my bad! It was the 2862 I bought. Shift work is as bad as nappy brain.
To reiterate, this post (and this forum overall) are very helpful.
Thankyou

Re: Activated charcoal pollen filters
This thread was useful to me. Bought the FP2882 filter and fits perfectly into my B5.5, and is noticeably thicker than the OEM cabin filter it replaced. Just over £12 delivered from ECP with one of the infinite discount codes. The two year old cabin filter that came out shocked me due to the volume ...
