Definitely wouldn't change a old ve tdi for the complex pd engine as good as they are the old tdi engines were the best ever made. Plenty of tuning options and all can be done without the need for a ecu!

Re: HELP!! Diesel leak??
That looks to me like the pump head seals, rebuild kit is around £15 in uk and it's just the top 2 rectangular seals needed for that. Not really a DIY job tbh as if you put the head back on wrong or possibly damage something while removing/replacing etc

Re: Mufflerectomy question.
38mm inlet pipe is a touch small on a tdi, standard stuff is around 54mm and most go bigger on aftermarket

Re: Mufflerectomy question.
Having had a straight through on my passat when I bought it I would advise against it, far too loud and sounded terrible imo. I quickly put a universal exhaust box from ebay in, it was a long box about 4 inch across that had a straight through pipe in the middle of the box. It made a massive differe...

Re: EGR Valve Repair
The egr is down the back of the engine hidden by turbo and coolant pipes, driveshaft, dpf and much more rubbish! It's a pita to remove and as said previously its normally the electric part that fails so for the effort to remove I'd replace https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200621/ce172e1abb910d8f1e...

Re: EGR Valve Repair
It's not a anti shudder as on newer stuff it also closes to aid the flow of the egr valve. So yeah not a direct throttle control as a petrol would but does more than a stop valve

Re: EGR Valve Repair
That's the throttle flap not the egr, egr is hidden down the back of the engine in the darkest depths

Re: EGR Valve Repair
Quite often it's the electrical part of the 1.6tdi egr that fails so not really going to help with cleaning, combined with the ridiculous placement of the valve assembly and how difficult it is to remove your options are map out or replace with the best one you can find. Worth having the emissions r...

Re: Car stalls when driving
Pretty standard for any vw to come up with oil pressure if cranking and not starting. Never herd of a b5 oil pump failure either. Sounds like hes off down the wrong path

Re: Finally getting the old girl remapped
Oh on most cr or newer stuff its false economy the old ve isn't exactly high tech and just wants more diesel and air like the good old days of throttle cables! Personally wouldn't be using on anything that has a proper ecu and can control fuelling but the ve engines are a bit basic and respond well ...

Re: Finally getting the old girl remapped
Yep I used a tdi tuning one too and it worked really well, theres some new unknown brands for around £50. Still alot cheaper than a remap and does work well on the old tdi

Re: Finally getting the old girl remapped
Just buy a pre mapped ecu seing as you can take the part numbers from your current one.
Or I've had good results with a old fashioned tuning box on the ve engine in the past

Re: Starting PD 130 after 18 months.
I'd prob crank a few times without starting to try get the oil up round the engine a bit. Then fire it and let it idle for 5 mins and off you go, quite hardy cars really. Mine was recently sat up for about 4 months and fired straight up with a battery charge then checked tyres and drove 100ish miles...

Re: When to leave the dealer and go independent
I'd be looking for a decent independent unless you are planning on selling soon as some people like the vw stamps. Wouldn't say the quality of work at a vw dealer is worth what people think!

No you want need vcds, as the pipe and air will be after the abs unit. Just make sure the fluid is topped up and doesnt run out when changing the pipe

Do you use the key to unlock? I've known the paddles to break of the back of the locks causing it to stick in the unlock position
