I rebuilt my calipers, I bought some spare calipers so I could take my time without taking my car off the road.
I got all the parts from a company called big red.
There is some info on the rebuild in my thread...link in my sig. Page 4 ish.

Re: Rooftop Bike Racks
I've got the same Thule set up and it's excellent. I carry road bikes, so are probably more aero. I can't say I notice a huge drop in fuel economy. I've driven 400 miles through France with 2 bikes on the roof and two more on a Thule tow bar mount platform carrier and still got 55mpg. That's good g...

Re: Rooftop Bike Racks
I bought a pair of thule 591 and some wing bars a couple of years back for mine and the mrs 29ers. They have had a fair bit of use and once set to the car the bars and bike carriers can be moved on and off the car as one unit. I really cannot fault them, they are well put together and hold the bikes...

Re: Are Passats BIG?
I went from a mk4 astra to a b5.5 estate. It was a noticeable jump in size both out on the road and when it came parking. It did only take a few days to get used to the size though, and rear sensors helped with parking. The convenience of the extra space far outweighs the small amount of time it wil...

I don't get why Jodie Kidd is being mentioned. She is famous for standing there and not talking...hardly the skills required to host one of bbc's flagship shows. Has no one seen how drab and boring she is on her itv show bout classic cars. There are loads of female presenters who are good at their j...

Re: help on claying!
You can also get different grades of clay.
my Mrs fabia was covered in sap stuff when we bought it. Fine clay wouldn't touch it so I got some course stuff which got it off but left a dull finish on the paint. Quick going over with compound then polish and it was good as new. What clay did you use?

I always clean mine....There's definitely something therapeutic about doing it yourself
I couldn't bare to let anyone else near my passat...although the Mrs does occasionally help (but I always keep a close eye on what she's doing lol)

Re: wheel alignment after lowering
Yeah there isn't a great deal that can be altered, which is why i thought anyone with a hunter system would be able to check the alignment. since lowering her, she drives fine, doesn't pull to either side, and there's no rubbing or knocking. But prior to lowering my front passenger tyre, was wearing...

Re: wheel alignment after lowering
What system do they use there?
I'm in south Wales so would be a fair old trek lol.
it seems alot of places have "all the gear but no idea".
I've been recommended a motorsport place who will set the whole lot up from scratch, gotta call him in the morning.

I can't believe it's been so long since I updated this. Das wagon is still going strong, just had a few other priorities earlier in the year. With more time on my hands again things have begun to change. I'll update where I'm up to a bit later.

wheel alignment after lowering
I've recently lowered my b5.5wagon about 60mm on AP coilovers. Since fitting I have tried to get 4wheel alignment done, older systems at my local tyre place won't fit because it's too low. Another place which has a hunter equivalent couldn't fit his system on there either. Mt local volvo garage has ...

That's going to look the dogs danglies mate. I liked your old rims but didn't think they suited a silver car.
i think the a8's will suit your car much better.
