Love the fact that it’s minion duct tape. I’m definitely getting some.
Mine is loosing its shape like it’s melting from the engine side. It still works but might as well source a second hand one now.

What about the glow plug relay? Mine makes a noise a few seconds after the gp light on the dash goes out.

Re: Water leak
I had to glue the bottom part of the antenna a little while ago. I was not leaking but had broken. It could definitely be a culprit then. That section in the picture was not just damp, the carpet had soaked in water. I could push the water out. I did go car wash the day previous. Maybe the top seal ...

Water leak
Spent a few hours cleaning my car today. Hoovered etc. Found a bit of water in the lower inside parcel shelf. Towards the right in the following image. Some kind of mould growth so it’s been happening for some time. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181203/01edcf159f6c7b2ed4c4592bb2de5976.jpg Might...

Re: MOMENTARILY DEPRESSED
The older 535d remapped must be near 300bhp so the newer ones must be way over.
I drove a 335i petrol a few months back and was not that impressed. On paper it looked unbeatable but I think the torque of the bmw diesels is unparalleled.

Only the best for that beast Gaz. I have seen a nice improvement in fuel economy since my last 507.0 service. I wouldn’t use anything else now.

Re: Activated charcoal pollen filters
Nice to have a change once in a while Gaz. I would hold on to your Passat as long as possible, even with this diesel government stuff going on the estate holding its value. Harder and harder to find estates in good condition. The saloon less so, but as we all know a looked after b5.5 will keep on go...

The FP 2882 is much more expensive, at 12 pounds it must be the 2862??
By the way Gaz have you sold your Passat? I read something about a Mercedes?

I kept the front right incase I get a unrepairable puncture or something but there 5 or 6 years old from the manufacturing date so I’m contemplating just throwing it away.

550 urban driving. But that drops in winter quite a bit.

Re: 2nd gear crunch
Mine is a FHN gearbox 2003 year and its second gear is not great. My first Passat was 2001 plate which had a very similar gear change. I used the vw gearbox oil on my current Passat which cost 45 pounds a few years back. I did hear there’s a cheaper alternative which is even better. Can’t remember w...

Re: 2nd gear crunch
I know from reading other threads on here that refurb can be very expensive but you get a good working gearbox. Replacing from another second hand unit is the cheapest option but that unit could be the same as yours or worse. Unless you did the work yourself and paid for no labour it could get expen...

Re: 2nd gear crunch
Every Passat I have ever owned has had 2nd gear issues. The colder it is the worse it gets. When the cars up to temp the gears are like new. I adjust my driving style to make it a little easier, slower second gear engagement helps. I too changed my gearbox oil at great expense, which did eventually ...

Re: B5.5 Boring and on a Budget!
I’m happy with the Goodyear tyres overall, I would buy them again but my wife has nokian wr suv tyres and there even better than the good year. The price is slightly cheaper for the nokian too. If these 2 new tyres last 5 years I will be happy. The Goodyear’s have had a hard life, but there all seas...

Re: B5.5 Boring and on a Budget!
Found my receipt for the Goodyear tyres. Bought them exactly 5 years ago and they managed 15k miles. Most of which has been urban driving.
If the passenger side was fine and I changed them about 2 to 3mm left then I would easily have got 7 years and about 20k miles.

Re: B5.5 Boring and on a Budget!
Just ordered Nokian WR D3 205/60 R15 95H XL I was going to order them last night but thought I would wait until the morning. Overnight the price went up from 52 pounds to 68 pounds. I will just keep them on all year round as my car only does about 2 to 3k a year. The Goodyear’s have been on for a fe...

Re: B5.5 Boring and on a Budget!
I like to change the tyres as a set, so even though the drivers side is ok I’m still going to change it along with the damaged passenger side. If the passenger side was not damaged then there would be no issues using them a bit longer. To be honest I was looking for an excuse to but the nokian d4 bu...

Re: B5.5 Boring and on a Budget!
Went through a giant crater in the road yesterday. The oncoming driver forced me in to it. Did not sound good. So I went to have a look and looks like the tyres worn on the outside more than the inside. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181024/6b8e3492a91dcc474a493368a49128e8.jpg https://uploads.ta...

They have finally arrived. 2 failed delivery’s and nearly a month on. Just in time for the cold weather.
Need to get to grips on how to fit them. Seems easy enough though.

Engine vibration
My cars been acting strangely these past few weeks. I thought I noticed it a few months back but it’s got much worse in the last week. The car seems to shake but only at idle. And only when it’s hot. First few miles it’s fine but soon as it’s up to temp and I’m in traffic there’s a definite vibratio...
