Re: OBD Scan tool

Water leaks are a very common problem. Here is a bit of reading....https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/152490-water-ingress-problemsolved/ If the wet carpet is just the drivers side, then the leak could be through one of the doors. Open a door, hose some water on to the outside glass and look for ...

An ebay search for "Vag Com 409 cable" will find you a cable for around £6-£7. Then a Ross-Tech vcds-lite free download...https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds-lite/download/ will give you a lot of functionality, including reading and resetting fault codes and loads more. It took me a bit of read...

Thanks for reporting back. I'm glad it worked out for you, at a reasonable price.

Now you just have the ULEZ issue to deal with.

Re: Misfire on low revs

VAG often seem to have part numbers like that, with the first number indicating a particular part code identifier for VW, Audi or Skoda, when the rest of the number is the same and in reality they are the same parts. If you search ebay, google and other car parts sellers for 4D0 905 351, 8D0 905 351...

Re: Misfire on low revs

I don't think there is any easy way to see if the ICM is working correctly. If it's the 4D0905351 I linked to, then the outputs to the 4 coils seem to be the 1-4 numbered conections on one of the output connectors. It might be possible to swap over the No.3 cable with 1,2 or 4 to see if the No. 3 pl...

Re: Misfire on low revs

That's good...you've found something that isn't working. I think you've already swapped over the individual coil modules to prove they all work, but I suppose it's worth double checking by swapping the No.3 coil with another one to confirm that (1) the No.3 plug still does not spark and (2) the orig...

Re: Misfire on low revs

If you remove the spark plug, connect it to the coil pack and earth the plug body, you can start the car and check that the plug sparks to ascertain if the coil and plug are working correctly. Before you start the engine you could either screw an old plug in the plug hole, or perhaps leave that cyli...

Re: door lock actuator/module

If you search "Passat B5.5 front left door lock" on ebay you will find many for around £20. I expect there is a difference between the front driver and front passenger door side, so probably best to avoid any mentioning left hand drive. The lock units are common across many cars in the vw ...

Re: No brake lights, ESP on and glowplug flashing

If you google Passat (or Golf Mk4) brake light switch replacement you will find some videos. The switch has a ratchet-type mechanism to set the point at which it switches the contacts, so there is a set procedure for doing this, involves pulling up the brake pedal as far as possible or twisting the ...

Re: Driver door open status not working

Good news on replacing the door lock mechanism. You'll find the next one easier to do! The door panel can be resealed with a cartridge of silicon or mastic after cleaning the panels with meths or similar. Best to lift the passenger carpet to dry out the copious quantity of underlay used there, and t...

Re: Wheres the Starter Motor relay fuse?

According to the Haynes manual there isn't a fuse or relay in the starter motor wiring. Obviously the main starter motor feed is taken straight from the battery to the solenoid attached to the starter motor, and the motor is earthed straight to the engine block. The operating coil for the solenoid (...
