Re: Recurring intake air sensor code on '07 B6 TDi 170bhp
I can't be absolutely certain, but I think I had a similar problem a couple of years ago, when the car was 2 months out of warranty. I took the car in for an orange error light on the dashboard. The dealer said nothing about what it might be, and the car was in the workshop all day. When I picked it...

Re: VW emissions update
Whelp, I finally got a notification that the update was available, so booked the car in a couple of weeks back. Sat around in the dealer's reception room for three-and-a-half hours, then they said, "It's done", and that was that. No apology for all the mucking about or anything, no free VW...

Re: VW emissions update
My understanding is that all the 'fix' does is remove the "cheat" lines from the code (the ones that say "if the car is obviously on rollers because its stationary with the engine running, and in gear"). This is the logical thing to do, as it will have absolutely no effect on nor...

Re: b6 worth avoiding?
I don't have a lot of experience with VWs, as my Passat is the first I've owned. I've been lucky so far; I bought the car used, with (IIRC) 40,000km on the odometer. Had a rear tail-light replaced when the car was still under warranty, and the rear suspension too (previous owner towed a boat). Then ...

Falkens I run on everything, and ££/mile is very good. On my b6, the fronts are 50% used after 15k miles, rears are like new. On my s3 despite 3 full track days, 3k miles all in, 6mm all round. following a recommendation on here, I had Falkens on the rear (as the rears were worn from bad suspensi...

Re: A couple of questions
Paddle has been installed wrong if the + doesn't work. @OP -- does it "+" when you use the stick to shift? Do you have Tiptronic (09G) gearbox or the DSG? The Tip box can take a perceptable time to change down from third to second It does change gear with the "+" - it's just mor...

Re: 11 million VWs under review?
The number of VWs affected here in UnZud numbers only in the thousands, and we've been told that it is expected that power won't be changed, but consumption will probably increase slightly. That implies that the fix will merely cause more frequent / longer DPF regeneration cycles. I dunno what other...

A couple of questions
I has two (2) questions today. Firstly, I've noticed that when using the 'paddles' to change gear, the "-" or 'Down' paddle works fine, but the "+" or 'Up' paddle doesn't; it seems a bit stiffer and sometimes takes a couple of tries to get it to work. Just a matter of adjustment ...

Re: First impressions
Here's a thought about the adaptive cruise control. I dunno how the VW system works, but my boss has a 2015 AMG ML63, and he was driving all the time with it on, even commuting to work in 30mph traffic, so he'd have "a more relaxing drive". After a few months, it came up with a warning lig...

Re: Vw emissions, latest I've read
What is going to be the worst thing for VW (apart from a dent in their reputation and a downturn in sales) is those litigious Yanks wanting $$$$$$$$$ because WAAAAAH!!! My car isn't as clean as I thought!" , even though they probably in all honesty don't give a poo about pollution and the envir...

Re: 11 million VWs under review?
Why would a UK car need to be remapped? For sure a lot of information on the defeat device isn't known but isn't it just supposed to detect and defeat a USA test and only then in respect of NOx? If so, what's the issue in the UK (or Europe as a whole) where the cars passed the emissions test suppos...

Re: VW dirty tricks causes a U.S recall
But what do you guys really think / feel about all this, as far as Passat ownership is concerned? I'm kinda surprised by it (but then again, not really), but it doesn't make me want to go out and sell my car ridiculously cheaply, just to be rid of it. It's still the best car I've ever owned (or driv...

Today I took my Passat into the dealers to have a service. And a new intake manifold fitted. Get it back tomorrow. Dunno what the service will cost (probably $$$$), but the brand new manifold is free! Labour for fitting it $200 (50% discount)! Chocolate cake for the really "on to it" servi...

Hmmmm... yes. My roof rails are chromey (dunno what sort of shiny metal they are), and they're kinda... hmmm.... - tarnished. Dunno whether to attack them with Autosol, or iffen it'll wreck them.Docz2k9 wrote:Unless the rails are chrome . .

Re: Anything you don't like about your Passat.
Check it oot, Mon!! So, I got a call from the service guy at the dealership, who'd chased up VWNZ on my behalf without me even asking him to. Parts are ordered for my out-of-warranty car, and VWNZ are footing the NZ$1550 parts bill. The dealer has volunteered to discount the labour by 50%. Nett cost...

Re: Anything you don't like about your Passat.
After just under two (2) years of ownership, I've found something I don't like. A couple of months back, the amber engine warning light was on, couldn't get rid of it, so I booked it in to the dealer for a look-see. Got 30 seconds down the road, and the light turned off, so I cancelled the appointme...

Re: Positive B6 ownership
In the weekend just gone, did 600km in mine, great to drive, and used only ~30litres of diesel; that's around 56mpg. :-bd Funny thing was, the missus looked at my fuel gauge, and said, "Wow! You've used a lot of fuel!" So I pointed out I'd also done a lot of distance. It worked out great; ...

Re: Warning Light
Whelp, I assumed the fault was from too many short trips causing the DPF to get a bit clogged, so I took it for a thrash for about 20km or so. Light still illuminated. Booked it in at the dealers, then on the morning when it was booked in, off I went, following my SpousalUnit in her Golf Cabrio. Got...

Warning Light
When I drove my B6 today, the amber engine warning light was illuminated (the one that looks like an outline of an engine). According to the owner's manual, this means there's a fault with the DPF. Note that this is NOT the warning symbol that looks like a muffler. So - what do I do? Take it in to t...

Re: What did you do to your Passat today?
The 8 or 9 year old child of a local pond life tried to turn around on their bike on my drive and fell into my car. Wrecked the paint and put a golf ball sized dent on my N/S front wheel arch. I did that to my wife's cabrio, when it was only two days old. $1200 for a golf-ball sized dent. Lu...

Do you still have to pay 5¢ per mile even on your "metal" roads? What about when you're going along that long beach? (forget what it's called) Yup (but it's 5cents per kilometre ), and you have to buy the tax in advance, in lots of 1000km or so (I bought 5000km last time). It's supposed ...
