Thanks to everyone who replied and gave advice, so this is my update, after reading all the horror stories on here I was bricking it hence my query so asked my mechanic who does my servicing (vw, Audi, specialist) cost of job,£1000 yup that's a thousand was his quote he's done 2 or 3 and it takes ...

hi all, i need to get a straight answer, i have a 57 plate 2 litre sport tdi passat , bkp engine code , 68000 miles , i have had to do next to nothing to the car since i have had it ( a year old) its been almost faultless but im bricking it now cos i think my car might have the faulty hex key shaft ...

my vw dealer did my timing belt for £279 but that was belt and tensioner not water pump never mentioned anything bout replacing water pump to me so i presume its ok

easiest option is to find out where car was serviced , if it was done by vw, and give them your reg and they should be able to tell you cars history and ask them what mods if any have been done to your car. they should have your chassis number on record.

Still can't believe vw are having these issues, pretty big ones at that,sorry vw but when I replace my b6 it will not be with another vw. For decades vw were cars to look up too something you hope one day you could own but not anymore, what's gone wrong with the once reliable brand .

Latest update, phoned vw dealer today , they have my car details etc service chap said the cars with probs were recalled and later engines (oil pump) were modified and improved he said that going by my chassis number my motor has never needed to be recalled so in his opinion it has newer type oil ...

thanks for your replies fellas kinda fed up now to put it mildly, went from ford to vw thinking i upgraded not so sure i have, between epb, rear brake calipers , fuel injectors and loom and now the oil pump never worried about a car so much. my car has covered 50,000 miles ,had it from a year old ...
