Alternator woes, not the usual

Hi all, It started off as the usual, alternator workshop light came on. My question is has anyone measured the voltage on the blue exciter wire with ignition off? Unlikely because why would you .. Replaced alternator with a super cheap gamble eBay one that had been refurbed and in use since fitted o...

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...

This car has been a fighter but I'm too stubborn for my own good to concede  As said I had my doubts from the start on how good the head gasket was and now, all be it not from my own choice is now addressed. Finding a replacement has been futile looking all over eBay and the net, managed to...

Re: New one, Gaz will like this ;-)

:D S3 as car car can't fault it, just have gained a bit of a reputation, there's a seemingly nice one on eBay now in the nogaro blue, also an RS2 in the same colour :ymdaydream: if only.

How you finding it now you've had it for a few days?
A6 seems to have a better image than say the A3/A4/A5 being the 'knob' cars lol, even the TT seems to fall under the better image, off the radar type car!
Imagine if I had previously suggested an S3 x_x :hyst Mk1 TT was a great motor, I do toy with the idea of getting another, they...

Re: New one, Gaz will like this ;-)

Nice motor and imo the right choice, I recall seeing you post recently asking around for a b5/5.5 and I did think the Audi option would be the route I'd go down. Didn't speak up as didn't want to go against the collective :D and be seen as telling people what they should get. Don't get me wrong, the...

Re: back from the dead

Had a disaster some months ago, head gasket went weeks before moving house ~x( Well not 100% sure on the chain of events but it was a hose from the heater matrix that let go, temperature at the time was in the norm, saw a plume of smoke or steam behind me, problem was I couldn't stop straight away d...

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...

Cheers \:D/ Yeah I'm still working on resolving the skins, when I was doing the hose test against the glass water was pouring into the door, may as well of not had a scraper there at all. Door cards have been compromised, not major damage but I've addressed that too, will picture that too. Also work...

Re: B2 window scrapers n trim

Possibly a bit of outdated information as already mentioned Volkswagen-classic-parts.de do have reproduction window scrapers stocked, I have bought a full set and the fitment is spot on :-bd . I've been looking for these scrapers on and off for nearly 5 years including on classic parts and seemingly...

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...

The encouragement is always appreciated, the Mrs is yet to be convinced :-@ Been difficult to get any decent progress of late, it's pretty cold plus juggling a 3 year old but I have been doing some bits when I can, but nothing interesting really. Windows started getting a bit steamy, got to the poin...

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...

Thanks for all the encouragement. Have been tinkering again over the last week, I had a slight oil leak which I eventually tracked down to the cam seal and replaced, one of the things that led me to he can seal was oil would pool on a little ledge on the side of the block just under the head so fair...

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...

And now for some shots in the sun, made it from Witney to Santa pod and back without a hitch, the initial drive to the mot was interesting, at first real slow as in I have a problem still slow. But quickly perked up, revs well, no flat spots, drives and holds the road well, possibly as on lowering s...

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...on the road!

It's been a while, I may have been somewhat lapse on here but have been keeping up the usual dabble of work now and then. Until I discovered Santa pod was hosting the VW outbreak event so then it was a 5 week rush to go from being in bits to being on the road x_x https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...

Thanks for the encouraging comments, the Mrs does not share our enthusiasm. Yes it's an aftermarket sunroof which was all the rage back in the day apparently, cut a dirty great hole in the roof and loosely plug it up with a glass panel. This roof only tilts but as you've mentioned the oem sunroofs l...

Managed to spend a bit of time on the old battle cruiser yesterday, drove out of the workshop and back in again under its own power without catching fire :ymapplause: Got sunroof back in, was previously leaking so removed, polished the ally frame and refitted with pu sealant/adhesive, its never comi...

Beautiful motor

There's always a knock on effect from these projects, fortunately it's not a daily driver just an old work horse I can tinker about with along with that bloody b2 that's testing me ~x(

Re: Don't you just love it when ebay comes up trumps

That is tight, might have to try a moc fit at the weekend and just hang a caliper off one bolt on hub carrier to gauge clearance, whats the offset of those wheels?

Re: Don't you just love it when ebay comes up trumps

Interesting, I did look into the 345mm setup but these tickled my fancy a bit more being twin pot and as I'm fairly sure (you'll know better than me) that these were fitted to the b5 s4 as well as a6 all road and some A8s? So I figured they would be ideal for a b5, wheel clearance didn't really cros...

Re: Anyone clued up on the Gl5 engines?

Cheers fella! I was a bit concerned how well my £80 gamble would play out on that gasket set. Fired it up again yesterday, fires up straight away but it is a bit lumpy and stuttery still in the first few moments but maybe I'm asking too much, after all it's been sat for 2 weeks and it was in single ...
