Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...
There was a noisy blow from the manifold and ominously a missing stud. What an absolute pig it was getting off, had to remove the left engine mount and starter to gain access, plus the nuts were almost rusted down to a nub. http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh621/whatwasithinking/IMG-20160620-WA00...

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...
:-bd It's good to get some appreciation for my efforts, not everybody shares my enthusiasm for a 30 year old estate. I'm currently on the hunt for the 256mm caliper carriers 853 615 125, only have 239mm on the front now and while I'm replacing all the lines makes sense to upgrade the brakes. These a...

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...
Cheers fella At the moment getting the old beast tidied up and running right. There's a nasty blow from the exhaust manifold as there is a stud missing and from a prod test seems stud has been sheared off so that's a ball ache that needs addressing. I'm pretty keen to upgrade the brakes, as it is no...

Been quite some time since I've last posted, I've still kept an eye in as still have my b5 which has done me well. Anyway, another drunk eBay session has yielded this beauty http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh621/whatwasithinking/IMAG0267_zpsv5ruamkf.jpg [/URL Been busy cracking on with it the pa...

Re: AMG alloys on passat help needed
Fairly sure newer Mercedes wheels are m14, not sure on the year it changed from m12, around 2005 I'd guess at. Had to drill out my amg wheels to accommodate the wider lugs, be sure to buy the spiggot rings and spend the money on ally ones that way you are not relying on the bolts alone to centre the...

Re: 1.8t boost massvily spiking
The N75 unplugged from the wiring loom or disconnected entirely? With the N75 still plumbed in but disconnected you should only be making small boost, 0.3-0.5 bar IIRC, it'll be the wastegate actuator pressure, not sure what yours will be exactly and you have swapped the turbo. The actuator pressure...

Re: 1.8t boost massvily spiking
What I had a while ago was a partially blocked N75, which caused boost to spike to over 1 bar on a standard map. Upon removal I discovered a blackish residue that was clogging up the ports, bit of solvent or carb cleaner and some compressed air and applying 12v to actuate the solenoid in the process...

Re: Cleaning out PCV system
Give the TB a clean again and the plate can be turned by hand, it will (should) close by itself. When Installed again turn the ignition to the first click and leave it there for a while, leave bonnet up and youll hear a hjgh pitch whine which is the TB going through the motions, once the noise has f...

Re: Cleaning out PCV system
Have you cleaned out your throttle body yet? Alot of your codes point toward the TB, a dirt TB can cause hunting etc. Easy fix and worth the time to check.

Re: loctite for 1.8t injector inserts guidence
Brilliant thanks,
I replaced the O-rings last year due to seeping on the manifold but it didnt cure the problem, I later learned the Inserts could cause this due to the threads leaking.
Figures, PTFE would be too simple, thanks again.

loctite for 1.8t injector inserts guidence
As per title, Ive been trawling google for the thread sealer for the injector inserts that screw into the inlet manifold, cant find a decisive answer. Im hoping some one here knows which one(s) I need, 620 or 640/648 seem to meet the criteria. VW wernt much help with this either. seen some people ju...

Re: Received a delivery this weekend
Yeah, yet to see the 100k mile mark yet, mostly used for odd jobs where I need to move larger items, also used for trips to santa pod where I sleep in the boot with the seats down. If Im honest the comment about the joms holding out well isnt strictly true, one they havent really covered many miles ...

Re: Received a delivery this weekend
Limited space for decent pictures, no spacers got lucky with the offsets I think. Camber shims on the rear so I could loeer it more and still load up the boot, used to have a fair bit of poke and the arch almost sat against the tyre, only have slight stretch as I do carry on occasion and dont trust ...

Re: Help with new turbo wagon boost problems
VCDS lite can be downloaded for free from their site, just need to buy a cable off the bay for around £6, best thing I've bought for under a tenner. It wont give you the description of all the fault codes but they can be googled, also cannot do any adaptation unless registered but it proves more th...

Re: Help with new turbo wagon boost problems
May be a chance the actuator rod has been tinkered with to hold in the wastegate more, that may be hard to tell how much. 20psi? Almost 1.5 bar, is the N75 hooked up as standard? Could try bypassing it and running the actuator directly from the turbo, see if all the problems persist, should only boo...

Re: Help with new turbo wagon boost problems
Use the part numbers to see if they are a standard fit for your engine code, people sometimes go for the injectors from the 225 TTs but I doubt they physically look much different.

May be worth an oil change so you know that there is good quality oil in there. Ideally the pickup screen wants checking but its bit of a job.

Re: Help with new turbo wagon boost problems
MBC still fitted? I had a dabble with one as I was going to try the diode 'mod' the americans seem to do, I tried having it at a low setting first off but it was just useless so it got binned, to be fair I probably should have got a better one but I think I am better off letting the ecu handle that ...

Re: Variable speed limit gantry cameras
Suprised they were that lenient to allow 85, thatll be almost an indicated 90 on the speedo, especially considered when the cameras are armed the limit typically will be 60 and under. Explains alot tbf, again wouldnt want to test the tollerance on newer stretches of variable speed limits...

Re: Variable speed limit gantry cameras
They do flash, seen plenty of times from opposite carriageway and in the dark. I can imagine not all of them work but the chances of people knowing which are slim and I wouldnt fancy trying to find out myself. The sections of motorway these cameras occupy are signed variable speed limit, the gantry ...

Re: Variable speed limit gantry cameras
I imagine they are gatso, radar type at least, not the yellow average cameras you typically find on roadwork sections, the ones mounted on gantries with the illuminted signs and the refference lines on the road that reduce the speed limit when traffic builds or in case of an incident etc. The gantri...
