Re: Immobilizer activated after fuse misplaced

Update: Turned out there was another misplaced fuse..

Moving F12 to F15 made it fire up again. Note to self... pay more attention to where the fuses pulled out belong! L-)

Immobilizer activated after fuse misplaced

Hi, I've had something draining my battery so yesterday I attempted to locate the cause by removing the positive battery clamp and placing an amp meter between the cable and the battery pole. When connected the current draw would alternate between 0.6 - 0.9A. Removing and replacing fuses one by one ...

Emission workshop fault / limp mode

Hi, I'm having a rough time with my 06 wagon at the moment. 2.0 tdi BKP. It's on and off in limp mode so I'm assuming something is just borderline out of spec. I'm getting the motor lamp on and the "emission workshop" message on startup. Using a budget VAG scanner I get the following fault...

Re: Clutch master sucking air from reservoir?

Mmmm.... I'm just in the process of removing trim for a repaint. This 10 year old car is now covered in rust bubbles! Why on earth did they put large holes in the doors behind the (plastic) chrome trim when it is held in place by adhesives anyway?? The rust starts around these pointless holes! And w...

Re: Clutch master sucking air from reservoir?

Well... as far as I can tell it is now bled correctly and works like it should. So it's more about my curiousity over why this occurs :) Air enters the system from the reservoir.. long before the fluid level reaches minimum. This seems to me like either a bad/strange reservoir design or something el...

Re: Clutch master sucking air from reservoir?

Thanks for the reply! The Selley kit is pretty much exactly the same as the Gunson. Awesome tool for the price I'd say! Paid £15 plus postage on ebay. I'll keep the back bleeding trick in mind! But as stated it bled just fine once I pushed down the corner of the reservoir where the hose nipple to t...

Clutch master sucking air from reservoir?

Hi, Have had lots of trouble bleeding the clutch. The reason i started was that the pedal was a bit low and the gears a little difficult to engage. I have on and off successfully achieved a nice firm pedal. But continued bleeding found me with the clutch pedal at the floor and no response. I finally...

Re: Weird tail light problem

:hyst Sorry for wasting your time... My dad had looked after the car for a few weeks. I remember him complaining that the left tail light wasn't working. When checking the bulbs I noticed that he'd swapped the top (fog light?) bulb with the brake/tail light bulb, thereby connecting the brake and the...

Re: Weird tail light problem

Thanks for the detailed reply! I will also open up the tow bar electrical plug to see if there's anything dodgy to be seen in there. We've had salty winter roads for some time now! But that doesn't explain it in full either and I replaced it only two or three years ago making sure to fit a rubber ga...

Weird tail light problem

Hi, Have a 1998 tdi AFN German spec but imported to Norway. It has driving lights that are always on. This modification was likely done on arrival in Norway as I believe they don't have the daytime driving lights requirement in Germany. Turning the light switch on just turns on the instrument and da...

Re: Challenge of the day: What IS this noise???

Guys, sorry to say.. due to so many other projects I still haven't done any more investigations. And the noise hasn't gotten any worse so I keep driving. But it is a pig to drive! Could be due to the tracking being out but it was pretty much like this before I started replacing the suspension links ...

Re: Challenge of the day: What IS this noise???

Thanks for the replies guys! Unfortunately it's been a few busy days and I haven't had a chance to do any more investigations, just further / more accurate observations. Strangely I can sometimes drive the whole 15kms to work (almost) without a single noise from the front. Other days I can drive 1km...

Re: Challenge of the day: What IS this noise???

Hmm.. could it really be?? I must say that the noise is now almost constant. Just as apparant going along at 30 km/h on smooth asphalt as in the situation you describe. (We don't have any motorways around here so most of the time I'm going along with the traffic doing 60-70 kph) If it is the lower b...

Re: Challenge of the day: What IS this noise???

The kit was a RAG branded one. I bought it off a Norwegian seller, assured by their two year warranty. But as soon as received the kit and saw the RAG brand I was disappointed, they just look cheap. It is a german brand with website and all (http://rag-autoteile.de/) but it just doesn't look like &q...

Challenge of the day: What IS this noise???

Hi, It's been a while since I was at the forum... guess I've been enjoying relatively trouble free car ownership :) But now I'm starting to worry to the point of not wanting to take the car on longer journeys. Below follows a loong description. I’m really at a loss as to what this can be! Car info...

Thanks guys! Very useful info, also the vag com bit! With two little kids I have such limited time to play around with a laptop and stuff... But the Android app is something I can play with on my way to work (I take a ferry every day) or when I'm sitting in the car waiting for the wife.. :) An Elm32...

Re: ELM327 Obd2 Bluetooth dongle in 98 AFN?

Thanks Chris, The boost readout is my main interest as well and I have a retired android phone which could sit permanently in the car acting as a display! So even though my car is not obd2 compliant it should still connect with torque pro and provide a fair amount of data.. Great, I better get my ha...

ELM327 Obd2 Bluetooth dongle in 98 AFN?

Hi, As the topic suggests, has anyone here managed to use such a gadget on such a car? All the official info I have found suggests that obd2 functionality was only added on late model B5.5s... But the connector is there between the seats and I found one YouTube video stating the car is a 98 passat a...

Re: Gearbox ID.

Hi, I think I'm having the same noise that you're describing. Sounds like it comes from the RH side and doesn't change or go away if pressing the clutch pedal. CV joints seem sound here too, as do the wheel bearings. Noise appears to come from gearbox. Did you sort your problem out? I know the post ...

Re: CCM dead or...? Warning - long post!

I finally got around to do some measurements today. I get only 8.7 V at the Red/white power supply cable to the CCM. I'm guessing that's where my problem lies. There's 12.5 V at the fuse (fuse 14) so somewhere in the wiring loom there's weird things happening. I tried to supply battery power to the ...

Re: CCM dead or...? Warning - long post!

If I get a VAGCOM cable and the appropriate software, will it be able to tell me if there is a wiring fault and help me locate it? Studying the wiring diagram I have found that the driver's side switch panels are illuminated by power from a grey/blue cable, while on the other three doors the switch ...
