Re: People in need of help in and around the South West..

Hi

My visits to this site are thinning out I'm afraid. No progress on the seat front, but its not falling to bits or anything. All in all I think the wings will rust through before the seat fails.

If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear from you on

kitandliz@duck.com

cheers

Do you still have a leather driver's seat that might fit my 5.5 Highline estate? My seats are grey.

Half a heated seat?

Hello,

My drivers seat (5.5 Highline) has the dreaded hot spot burning through the squab. Is it possible to disconnect the seat heater and leave the backrest heater operational?

Re: People in need of help in and around the South West..

Hi I live in Oxford. Passat 5.5 Highline 2003. The driver's leather seat is beginning to show signs of age and the dreaded hot spot means I can't use the seat heater. I have a seat restorer near me, but no courtesy car. I need to hire/buy a spare seat so that I can then swap/drive and drop off the o...

Re: Anyone wants a free driver seat B5?

Hello,

Do you know if it is an easy swap for a 5.5 front seat?

I have an idea to get my Highline seat out, temporarily replace it and rebuild the leather which is now a bit saggy but not torn etc.

Regards

Re: Carry on or scrap?

Just had to face this. New MoT April but then two belt pulleys failed one after the other. Happily the old girl did not let us down on the motorway. So, I decided that 1x£250 and then 1x£400 was worth it. When we first thought it had actually died, we spent some time on the adverts. Many appealed, b...

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..

Always worth a try, The few pence extra on a couple of tank fulls. If you are not convinced, don't do any more. I think just about everybody here would agree it is harmless, so give it a whirl. I've never overdosed, but find 250ml 2 stroke per tank full is good for me. However the difference between...

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..

Less choice in rural France, but I find a mixture of the 'good' diesel plus 250ml supermarket 2T oil works just fine for me. If I forget, or am away from home, I notice the improvement as soon as I put some 2T back in. Side benefit- all the supermarkets here sell cream in 25ml bottles - just right f...

Re: Switching off alarm

I had an issue with false alarms. Most embarrassing at a small country hotel. B pillar switch trick ineffective. In the end had to leave the car unlocked overnight. Much browsing (including here) suggested that the tailgate switch sometimes does not fully close. VWs having such good (!) cabin sealin...

Re: Daylight running lights

I have used the same set of Philips LED Daytime lights [DRL STRIP WLED 12V Click1] on several cars for ten years. On the Passat they fit nicely into the lower front grilles and in my opinon look good IMG_0626.jpg . The latest super duper ones with a super duper price from Philips are here https://ww...

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..

Two and a half years and 25000 miles. I still use the cheapest 2T I can get in the supermarket. Sometimes I forget and remember when the old bus gets a bit more noisy and rattly. I regularly use 33ml (old cream bottles) to a 35L fill. Premium diesel.

Re: TYRE PRESSURES ??

I've seen this elsewhere on this site. Sadly my fuel flap does not have such a sticker, and everywhere (inc VAG) says look there. I guess, but perhaps someone could read from their flap and post here. I have a 5.5 diesel estate.
Thanks guys

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..

The jury is still out on my Passat but for the Kangoo 1.6diesel run around that is left where we house-sit the difference is marked. 250ml 2T at fill up at the supermarket produced quieter running and better starting - too soon to tell about economy. As it was the first go, I stuck another 250Ml int...

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..

Now I reckon that there is a small difference in mpg. There is a particular motorway junction near me that is an uphill join. The traffic already on the road has come down a big hill and is trying to keep speed up for the uphill. With supermarket diesel I have to boot it into kickdown to join the tr...

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..

At last got it together with the 2T oil and an empty tank so I mixed 250ml 2T into a tankful of Total Excellium [French Premium]. I guess I want to find a benefit, but I'm not sure. If you notice your car running a little better on a damp day, or the premium diesel works a little better then I feel ...

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..

We got our first Passat in Aug 12 [5.5 tdi130] From pick up, I've only ever brimmed the tank, and kept a log. I get noticeably less mpg from supermarket fuel, and the car generally behaves much better on the good stuff. I spend a lot of time in France so its Total Excellium over here. €0.15 per li...

Hand held steam cleaners can be useful. They are great for removing sticky headlight beam deflectors without using nail varnish remover - or similar
