If you're going to have a car like that, I'd want all the toys.. or at least as many as I could get.

No half measures..

This is one of the reasons I got rid of my last PD130 and bought a FWD 180hp 1.8T instead, no less frugal on short runs but much more fun!

Re: Which passat is the best? B5?

that picture highlights perfectly to me the corner cutting measures a once highly thought of manufacturer is taking to increase their margins That does look extremely shoddy, but you will find corner cutting like that on modern cars from all manufactures. Out of interest, was the other side the sam...

Re: Which passat is the best? B5?

The thing is Rich, is that most new cars are shiit, it's just that some cars are less shiit than others. I'd put VW in the less shiit category. As I said earlier, as the good old cars fade away, at some point we will all be driving these sorts of new motors. Your choice is do you drive one now whil...

Re: Which passat is the best? B5?

Oh absolutely not what you expect from a vw.. tbh the whole car came across like it had been done on the cheap.. the struts for the boot for example were like two big mandrel bent scaffold pipes sticking out of the mounts and nice plastic analogue clock in the middle of the dash..

Re: Which passat is the best? B5?

For the last 8 years I would have said B5.5. I couldn't be doing with all that new fangled B6 malarky, but I also have a Mk6 Golf that is a very good car and makes the B5.5 feel very dated. Now (having bought one) I would say the B7 is the best Passat. Only time will tell if it turns out to be an e...

Or... You could just have done with it and buy a facelift B5 A4 which is better in every way ever ever ever than a b5,b5.5, b6 and b7 combined

 did I just type that! Whoops, must keep opinion to self!

Re: CV outer boot replacement suggestions?

Blow torch on that bolt knuckle for 30 seconds, then punch and hammer it will come free. But yeah, no need to undo them for cv boots.. actually no real need to take the shaft out either, if you jack the hub up about 5cm it will come free from the spline, will take you about 20 mins start to finish t...

Rowan used the gold on his, looks good. Don't waste time taping things, just take the retainer clip off, unbolt the 2 caliper bolts and do it properly, looks 100 times better.

I never bothered, depends how fussy you are about not being told the bonnet is open I guess, I was more concerned with the oil light.. once you disconnect the battery it won't come back

Bonnet catch switch, exactly the same fault on mine. Disconnect your battery for 10 minutes, reconnect and as if by magic it will be gone..

I mean, apart from the arms, I'd recommend you invest in a couple of OE CV boot kits. After mine was lowered I went through about 4 in a short space of time, only after I lowered it..

Re: Suspension arms help!

I fitted the meyle HD kit to my old passat the reasoning being the oe arms were never intended to deal with the extra stresses of lowering etc.. so by fitting cheaper arms to a lowered passat, I was only going to have to change them again.. not a job i wanted to do more than once.. HD kit fitted and...

yeah it was a 10", I took out all the plastic jack holder etc.. tried fitting a 12" but there was just no room to get a big enough mounting plate in that recess without taking the molding out. GRP is definitely the way forward, I'd just make sure you stick some dynamat or similar down inside the win...
