Thanks for the replies, I'll try and get one tomorrow to get it sorted asap :) that old chestnut... :hyst no, it honestly did blow during the mot. i was wat...

Re: drivers door barrel repair
cool, i will save your link for when i go back to try it again for the third time. its not springing back for some reason, and i now have it fitted with the new spring, but it feels notchy, almost as if the spring ends are rubbing slightly on the casing? Re: drivers door barrel repair
I used all new parts except the spring.
I'll take it back out and try just replacing the parts that are broken. The first castle type is missing a lug piece and the bigger castle piece is split so expands when put together.

Re: 1998 1.8turbo battery
my passat is a b5, which i think is slightly different from the b5.5? mine was the smaller battery of the two that will fit in there (not as long) and just unbolted and slid right out (175mm high battery) and the new one I bought just slotted right back in too (190mm tall)

Re: ODB port
it doesnt mention anything about fitting any bmw minis so i would say you would need a different cable for the mini.
this is the cable i bought for my 98 passat. works well with vcds lite

haha yeah i hate tailgaters too!
i have thought about raising the back as it is too low, the tyre has tucked in the arch a little, so may just raise the front half inch to save things a little

Re: whats this bar underneath?
can you buy toughened/armoured ones? or do they need to be made up? it is pretty low, have to go two wheels up on speed ramps, even though its sitting on 18s. lol.

Re: whats this bar underneath?
I thought maybe ARB but it seems pretty thin/easy to bend :-? and with the side not being attached to anything I doubted my initial thought. SHOULD it be bolted up to anything on the outer edge or should it just 'float' there? edit: so its an engine tray, so just unbolt it and remove it for good then?

whats this bar underneath?
we have a lowered b5 estate and we keep getting this bar catching on deep pot holes and some speed ramps. what is it for? only one end seems to be connected to anything and the outer end just keeps catching and bending/twisting lower to the ground :( looking from under front bumper (so the bent piec...

been doing a lot of reading on here, after finding a fault with my cheapy ebay code read lead. it found code 16500 (implausable signal - p0116 35-10 intermittent) and it does sometimes (twice in a few months) have trouble starting when cold, first time it took 30 seconds to get it to start, 2nd time...
