Re: New Ford Tranny

Yes, turbo. Only 104000 on it and serviced regularly. Its cost £10k in repairs in a year! According to Ford its 'the backbone of Britain' not surprising we're in such state. Apparently 'everything we do is driven by you' except when its knackered again!

Re: New Ford Tranny

Just a little transit update. Mine decided to destroy itself the Monday before xmas. Pulled up at a junction, dipped the clutch, engine went into freefall revving beyond control. Managed to stall it before it went bang. Engine now kaput.

All sounds the same as mine! 2006 nearing 150k miles.
The hoot / cuckoo noise is an exhaust related 'issue' and looking on elsawin there was a change made to the exhaust system. Don't worry about it!

Re: New Ford Tranny

Tran5hits. I hate them! Been driving them for the last 10 years and they've got progressively worse. The stealers local to me are shockingly bad. I can't believe people buy Fords full stop - JUNK!

Thanks Derek!
Being a fairly new member to the fold I look forward to the unreliability and the issues you have encountered! NOT! but I'll take a chance for the time being!
I hope your new steed proves to be more satisfactory! :D

Re: handbrake switch

Apologies I wasn't making light of your situation! I don't understand why everything is so bloody complicated now. For the most part it neither makes things more efficient, reliable or cheaper to repair when it inevitably goes wrong. Can't see whats wrong with a cable why have an electric handbrake ...

Re: Your first car

My first was a 650cc 2 cylinder air cooled fiat 126. That had some power NOT! Think it might have made 70 once! I wrote it off 3 days after passing my test, rolled it 3 times and remember all the bushes and trees on the verge trying to get in through the full length ragtop. I was very lucky A - to s...

Re: handbrake switch

:hyst I was being facetious!(hence the  ) I get it all the time in my work where things are changed 'in the name of progress' which are actually of no benefit to anyone. Greater unreliability and more expensive to fix when the inevitable happens!

Re: handbrake switch

Another thread has been started talking about the same probs'....... I would sell mine tomorrow but my repair bills this year are over£4000 (all mechanical !) so it owes me too much. Can't understand why they could have just used " a normal" handbrake instead of (trying) to be cleaver! I...

Unless I'm being very dim GSF are currently doing exchange rear calipers for £170 a side! Nice not to have the issue in the first place but that doesnt seem hideously unreasonable to me.

Re: This is what a gunked up EGR looks like (pics)

I removed mine last weekend and it was pretty cruddy, however as its knackered I bought a new one this week. Hopefully the rain will ease tomorrow so I can fit it! No more 'emissions garage' warning all being well!

Re: Retro fitting Dashboard cup holders in S spec

Hi Tim Thanks for that - every day is a school day I was sure they were cup holders! I did some reading around on 'other' forums and a lot of people think they're a waste of time with trays getting stuck and stuff falling out of the back and jamming up. It does also appear that the dash is sl...

Hi This can be a minefield as I've found with other vehicles. I am sure that someone with far more knowledge than me will be along shortly. Below are links to a couple of calculators I've used in the past. Might help you get a better idea of what, how and why! As you said ET does indeed refer to off...

Retro fitting Dashboard cup holders in S spec

Hi All Bit random this but as I have a tight a**e 's' spec motor whats the possibility of retro fitting the retractable cup holders either side of the hazard switch. When I took that trim panel off previously to junk the old phone kit it looked like the structure behind was solid and maybe a differe...

I'd like the remap option, but too many pennies at the moment. Will probably look to do that after i've serviced it changed the cambelt and junked the hideous no grip 'Autogrip' and 'Runway' wellies that its currently wearing. :-q looks like a new soot collection valve will be the way to go!

Re: RANT - mechanics and trademen

I totally agree. I am 'trained' in a couple of areas but being of a mechanical / practical nature can turn my hand to most things. In the job i currently do the standard of work i see other people do is often appalling because they can't be arsed or don't know how. I dont let 'tradesmen' anywhere ne...

EGR Valve Kaput!

Hi All Have had an emissions fault for a while now and suspected EGR as there was a fair amount of oily crud coming from one of the 2 holes near the diaphragm on the valve body. I have had the emissions warning on the dash which I can clear with a generic scanner but keeps coming back. Got down and ...
