Re: Brakes

I've just bought some Mintex discs and pads via ebay from quality.car.parts - they are extremely helpful., all in front 312mm & rear 245's inc pads were about £133 delivered. The fronts are MDC1540 and rears MDC828 (think they are the same for all Passats ex W8). When I asked VW they wanted tha...

Solved: Removing Xenon ballasts from OE headlights (B5.5)

Paul thanks! Though I doubt if he has a W8 he would have removed the ballasts. Having managed to find a moment to sit down patiently, I have finally solved how they are removed - essentially the internal Xenon lens mount needs to be removed. Which though a faff isn't massively hard, there are three ...

Solved: Removing Xenon ballasts from OE headlights (B5.5)

Hi all, Probably a long shot but anyone ever removed the Xenon staters\ballasts from OE HID headlights? They are threaded through the main body of the light unit. They are separately available from VW so I would guess it must be possible to be remove them? I need to do this as I picked up some stand...

Re: HOW MUCH YOU PAID FOR YOUR PASSAT???

Paid £6600 for my 2002 (51) 130 sport estate 6speed with 57k, full vwsh, 15 months ago. This was cheap at the time!

Brother sold his 2001 (Y) 1.8T, 77k sport estate full vwsh 4 months ago for £2700.

Just goes to show the bargains which can be had now in the "finacial crisis"

Re: how much fuel does youre aircon use

hmmm - thats an average and is pretty over egged Engine size and power will play a bigger part. A small engined car with low power with the aircon on will require more heavy footedness to see the same performance as without - so lower mpg. I find ambient temp in summer affects as much if not more th...

Re: Headunit recommendations

If you want reference quality sound, I'd recommend the Pioneer DEH-P88RS, USB\IPOD\BT are options though.

Sound quality is awesome, the stock gamma sounded like it was playing through mud by comparison.

You can't go wrong with a VAX - if you have a Robert Dyas near you, they always seem to have some on offer.

Re: Wet Carpet Rear Drivers Side

I have the same issue in mine ie the rear passenger carpet gets wet. I removed the seat and aqua vac'd the carpet and under felt, must have had 2-3litres of water sloshing about. Having done all the standard stuff mentioned in the guides over the last year. I too had the water in the battery tray bu...

I am pretty sure Trendline is the base model and Highline is top spec model with a few in between Sport, SE etc I beleive Bx is reference to the internal VW body\chassis model number. B6 being the current shape, B5.5 being the previous post 2001 facelifted B5's, B5 being from 97-2001? and B4 etc bei...

Re: Instrument cluster display on Y reg v 02?

Thanks,

Would guess the part numbers are only obtained by removing the clusters or via vag-com? but either way my borther is about to trade his, so not going to get a chance...

Was just curious really, seems an odd thing to change\omit as both are "sport" option models

cheers

Re: 2003 1.9 TDI sport shock absorbers

Got Bilsteins OE spec B4's from Europarts - The rears for the sport are special order from Germany as they are non stock items in the UK? - from memory around £180 for all four delivered.

Can dig out the p\no. if you want.

Re: B5.5 TDi Sport fuel consumption

On my daily commute of 15 miles I average around 38\39 if I use my right foot and enjoy the turbo a little too much. Driving like my father thinks is the way forward I can get to 45-46. I can see 52 on a longish run (40 miles or so) steading driving up a motorway. If you are doing a lot of stop star...

Re: Aero Twin Wipers Very Noisy

Hi, Do they only screech in one direction? if so it could be the blade rubbers are in the wrong way round, may sound strange... if you look at them the very thin part of the blade is very slightly tilted. I bought a rear aero wiper for mine from VAG-Parts and it would screech and judder. Popped it o...

Re: Which passat to buy?

a chipped v stock 130... I'd go with the 130 as it is out of the factory with that BHP and your insurance will probably be cheaper than a modded 110. The 130 also has uprated engine parts from what I have read, so if you need more power later can be chipped to circa 160bhp. Never had an issue with o...

Going back is impossible I'm afraid. You'd have to add back in all the plastic that I just cut out, since you won't have it on yours! Your best bet would be to remove the Sat Nav unit and get a Mk4 Golf cubby hole. The cubby hole is 1-DIN sized and designed to fill the CD player gap on low ...

Re: Which passat to buy?

I'd go for the best you can find and afford. My preference would be the 130 Sport (but could be biased) though you may pay a premium for one. The performance is quite impressive and can still return 50+ on a steady run up the motorway. I run 18"'s on my sport and if you want to lower it watch o...

Re: 17" OE wheel & tyre size

They will be more than likely 7" or possibly 7.5" depedning on style. 215 or 225 (for 7.5"), 45 17's should do the trick. You'll want ones with the closest ET offset to 37.

I just fitted OE VW BBS 18" 7.5" ET37 with 225 40 18's and they fit with no problems.
