I need to change a light switch pull in the bathroom. I can turn the mains off and do it but what's the name of the gadget that can check if the wire is dead ?
Can I get this tester thing for about a tenner from screwfix ? Think it would come handy for future use.

Re: recommend jumper cables and battery booster
Maybe 1-2 weeks a few times. Already fitted a new battery.
Jumper leads and booster just comes in handy if I've accidentally drained the battery or helping someone out.

Would a HPI check tell you the extent of the damage ?
Alot of people that sell these cars describe them as water damage.

CAT C/D would you buy one ?
Are cat C or D cars worth buying if they are cheap and only had minor damage ?
Any implications on insuring them ?
Don't think I've ever been asked by an insurer if the cars ever been involved in an accident.

Re: Anyone use a Tablet as a Sat Nav ?
Forgot to add. Use a decent powered tablet with a good screen, IPS or the like. On the cheaper end some of the Mediatek CPU powered tabs are excellent on battery life and CPU power, try to get a quad core, MTK CPUs usually come with GPS options. A good bright screen with a wide angle of view should...

My main concern is breaking down on the motorway and being lumbered there or pay a towel truck hundreds of pounds. Atleast if they can tow me somewhere safe then I can sort something.

Recommend a basic breakdown cover
Anyone have any recommendations for a cheap basic breakdown cover for under £30. Just something that will bring me home if I breakdown. Obvious choices would be AA, RAC, Greenflag but been checking comparison sites and there seems to be companies I've never heard of offering cover for under £20.

When getting it taxed online, the site automatically checks if i have insurance but if I've just done the insurance online wouldn't it take a few days for it to appear on the MID that the tax site looks at to see if i have insurance ?

Isn't the b7 from 2010 just the same as the b6 but just a facelift and still using the same mechanical parts ?ct.p wrote:Don't do it.
Keep the 5.5 and wait for 7's or 8's to drop in price.

I gotta rid of my B5.5 by MOT in September. Too many things wrong with it. Was thinking of BMW 3 series or Audi A4 but i'd be looking for an extra £1k for like for like on Passat.

I fancy doing a road trip. What's the furthest you've taken your car from England to abroad and how did you break the trip down.
