Re: Heavy/stiff steering passat b5.5 tdi 4motion

Any chance one has a steering damper and the other doesn't. I know Peugeot used to fit steering damper, came across a 2.1 406 with the damper missing and it was leathal. Steered way to easy wasn't nice.

Would this be a CVT auto? They are amazing if you're light footed.
I can get 600 from manual but it's hard work, usually 550 is achieved. Find A roads 40 to 50 mph has the best returns.

Re: New turbo & full arm kit time

Starts pulling about 1400 and grunts to 4000. Works well with Simon's remap on idea on numbers but good driveability, still getting 600 miles to a tank.
Easy job bolts straight on.

For value with a b5/5.5 you can't beat rosstech light on a laptop, just buy a half decent obd2 cable. Better than most scanners.

Drilling is the way for most, I'd been spraying mine regularly for years and they didn't want to budge. Did get some out with oxy acetylene kit, but that was at a mates garage.

Re: Locked keys in the boot of estate.

All sorted thanks for your support.
Got a glass carrier suction cup handle thing and managed to shock the window down about 5mm. Then used a 5mm steel rod with a hook bent at the end, on the disconnected door. I've now had a £5 key cut no chip and hidden it under the car.

Locked keys in the boot of estate.

 Hi guys all was well with the passat. Until I used the silly middle button on the remote to open the boot. Put the key down whilst searching, closed the boot. Ohh poo!!! Any ideas please? I can tell you that one of the rear doors is unplugged from the central locking as it plays up on the dou...

Been wandering about these, nice to hear some feedback about them.
Was it a Big power 5 speed?
Paddle alright for town use or a bit grabby?

Thanks Burnzybubbles. Think cartridge is the way to go. Arm adjustment is external I believe? Any ideas what values I'd be looking for or do I need to ask Simon at CCC who remapped it.

Smokey turbo?

Hi guys. Had a good couple of years up to 128k now with no issues in the TDI. Started smoking badly below 1800 rpm.
Any advice on what route to go down, new , second hand , cartridge, new or reconditioned?
Cheers nige

E30 is a sweet handling package that will do the day to day reliably at 35mpg.
But I do feel the burden of being a responsible custodian of a 27 year old classic.

Thanks Jultstu. So if I buy a IMMO deleted ECU off eBay for the same engine I should be ok? As for the rest of you guys. An ECU will buy me a little time. Seems like a lot of expense for a car that's worth what. Seems hard to justify if I fit a standard ECU it'll probably do another 15k
