Engine code, all AVF where 6 speed from factory, AWX was 5 speed from factory.

AVF was the only engine fitted in the 1.9tdi sport version, all the rest of the models got the AWX I think.

To be fair, the first couple of plugs are very easy to get to, cover off and a 1/4 ratchet with deep 10mm socket then just go easy

It’s an 01E gearbox, and doesn’t suffer the same fate as the VAG 6 speed FWD gearbox, try oil first, also try refreshing the diff oil at the back too as it’s probably never been done.
