Re: Timing Belt/water pump replacement

No need to replace engine mount bolts, I didn’t on mine, just use what you get in the kit, it’s not a bad job, my mate who is a vag expert and myself and another friend done mine in an hour and 45 minutes start to finish but we went like the clapppers as I had to be somewhere and his previous job ra...

Re: Winter grill blocking off

I do, currently have corex (corrugated plastic protector) covering the whole of the rad, these 1.9tdi’s run very cool, I’ve not got engine covers or bonnet heat insulation or an undertray for various none performance reasons so it helps from keeping the cold air from the engine bay. I usually cut a ...

Re: Clutch and fly wheel

The clutch is deffo right and the flywheel should be, you have a 240mm set up on the AVF 6 speed engines, does the installer know he needs a special tool to reset the clutch? Either that or I’ve made one using a big puller and the old release bearing whilst being careful. They do fail and lock in on...

Sachs are equal to or arguabley slightly better than LUK, both get fitted to VAG cars and many other marques at factory.

Re: Clutch and fly wheel

If it’s a 6 speed you should have a AVF engine, it’ll be the 240mm kit for the 6 speed gearbox, honestly I did this same debate not long ago and the general consensus is stick with DMF, I’ve got the AWX engine in my A6 and lucked out on a new second hand luk and flywheel kit for £150, it still had m...

Re: Sump woe

Was the sump bone dry? Also check the sump when the engine is up to temp, clean the whole area first before inspecting to make things clearer, you may have just cracked it, can you see where you caught it? I recently replaced the engine on my C5 and I didn’t realise until I had the engine literally ...

Re: Smokey turbo?

Thanks Burnzybubbles. Think cartridge is the way to go. Arm adjustment is external I believe? Any ideas what values I'd be looking for or do I need to ask Simon at CCC who remapped it. Cheers It is external but tight for adjustment, might have to bend or make some spanner’s to fit. Simon might have...

Re: Smokey turbo?

If you are not touching stop screw or actuator rod and keeping old vnt nozzle mechanism , there is good chance that you won't need to adjust anything. First test drive will show, if you have any lag or not. Iirc the arm and the VNT stop screw are situated on the CHRA so can’t take one from another,...

Re: Smokey turbo?

Depends on your skill set, if you’ve caught it before it’s damaged the housings then a CHRA would suffice, you can find some decent second hand turbos, I picked up a recently refurbed gt1749 for £80 but I think I lucked out to be fair, oily well used ones change hands for about the same rate. Second...

what decided 5 or 6 speed box, production date? Sport or non sport. The Sport was 6 speed. I believe the V6 5.5s were also all 6 speed. Not sure about the B5’s however. 54 Passat Wagon PD175 99’ Audi S4 Avant 2.7 QTO ;) The v6 was 6 speed but strangely enough I think only in FWD in the uk as I don’...

Engine code, all AVF where 6 speed from factory, AWX was 5 speed from factory.

AVF was the only engine fitted in the 1.9tdi sport version, all the rest of the models got the AWX I think.

To be fair, the first couple of plugs are very easy to get to, cover off and a 1/4 ratchet with deep 10mm socket then just go easy :)

Just remove neg terminal and keep the radio code, that’s all I did with a c70 that the alarm kept going off late at night once left a few days.

Just getting back into tdi ownership, iirc check your clutch switch on VCDS, pretty sure when it fails you get Rev hang, but my memory is a bit hazy, does your cruise work?

Re: Never own another passat

I lost my love of Passats last year, constant work and problems. Had three over 7 years, none trouble free but all b5.5 so getting on and you should expect a bit of work to maintain them. I had a 54 plate S4 4.2 v8 Avant for a while, that sounded nice under throttle. Never felt like 340 bhp though,...

Re: Whine/drone noise on overrun in 2nd and 3rd?

It’s an 01E gearbox, and doesn’t suffer the same fate as the VAG 6 speed FWD gearbox, try oil first, also try refreshing the diff oil at the back too as it’s probably never been done. The 01E box is a good solid box on the whole, so hopefully it’s just low on fluid, you need GL5 for the diff iirc Bu...

EH ecu and AL injectors with a fuel cooler

Hi guys, haven’t been on here in a very long time, I needed a bigger car so went and got a c5 estate, long story and the engine is goosed, looking for a replacement and came across an AWX engine from an early b5.5 with a fuel cooler and EH ecu, does anyone know if it’ll have the AL injectors? As I a...

?? I was asking the question, I left the Passat circle a while ago so I’m not as clued up as I used to be, your saying they never existed but don’t even know if VW offered exclusive paint??
