Well it got fixed and used for a couple more years, but now it has been replaced by a Honda Jazz for daily duties and a BMW 530i for weekends and is surplus to requirements.
So after 10 years of sterling service i'm sorry to say this is now up for sale, see ad in classifieds....

Re: B3 Body water leak areas??
Mine has been leaking from the scuttle, blobbled a load of butyl tape sealant around the bonnet release cable grommet and the one next to it, cleaned out the drain holes into the wings and it hasn't come back since. Worth a look in this area...

Re: MOT fail-sadsad day
Brake pipes are easy enough, the only hard bit on these are the flexis for the rear axle, really hard to get them undone as access is quite tight. Spend a few quid extra on a decent flaring tool that can do proper single DIN flares not a £15 machine mart special that will end up costing you more in...

AVS (www.vwspares.co.uk) can get all the bits at good prices. If they're not listed on the website give them a ring and they will order it in. 01760 336933

Re: B3/B4 5 stud conversion.
It's almost impossible to find the specific Passat ones, but the bar itself it identical to golf mk2/3 and corrado rear ARBs. Only difference is the polybush in each end due to the diameter of the shock bolts. However the polybush can be opened up and a 12mm inside diameter bronze bush pushed in ins...

Re: B3/B4 5 stud conversion.
This is a great conversion and really improves the handling of these wagons especially if you have a 4 cylinder in the front rather than a VR6. Much more sure footed due to better scrub radius and more front castor. Just a quick note though that you don't want to swap the rear beam into a B3 as IIRC...

Re: Poly bush
Polys are poo on these, the way the big wishbone bush works just doesn't suit polybushes, they can't flex enough and dislocate from the wishbone, then wear quite quickly leading to tramlining and torque steer. Horrible things. R32 (rear) wishbone bushes are the way to go, although polys work for the...

Re: disc brake dust covers
Polo/ Fabia ones work fine on the back just have to drill two more holes for the stub axle bolts but everything else lines up perfectly. part number 6Q0615611 and 6Q0615612, probably easier to find than Passat ones.

The swage line in the bumper wont line up with the swage lines in the door trims. I had B4 bumpers on my B3 for a while and decided it looked pants after a while because of the swage line.

Re: Track rod ends.
If you need new ones then the 5-stud cars use different track rods+ends to 4 stud cars. My B3 has the same setup on the front. Only place I could find that would get proper TRW (oem) ones at a decent price were AVS (vwspares). Not listed on the site but they can order them if you give them a call. L...

They're at the top on the B1/B2 and B5, maybe that's what he's thinking. On ours they defo at the bottom like a mk2/3 golf.

Re: 1.8 8v b3 running issues missing and dead flat. HELP!
Yep PB would be the engine code. It's the multi point "Digifant" injection setup. If it's drinking fuel and stuttering my first thing to try would be the blue temperature sender on the coolant flange on the front of the head. It's the primary input that the ECU uses to control the fuel inj...

My rears are 205/45/16 on a 7.5" wide rim, effective ET20 and they're fine. One of the recommended sizes for these it 205/50/15 ET35 so you're not going too far out from stock. The arches don't really need rolling to bulge them out, just the lip on the inside folded over onto itself, especially...

Re: Correct Power Steering Fluid?
Yep, IIRC the changeover was 88/89, when the B3 was introduced, so all B3s use the green fluid. Later Mk2 golfs use the green stuff too. System is basically the same but different material used for the seals.Adam wrote:Really? My mk2 specifies the red stuff, same system as the b3?

B3 and B4 should use the green synthetic fluid, the spec is VW G002000.

Nice to see a 2.0 16v GT on here, very rare cars now! look forward to seeing pics. What sort of spec is it? Any plans for it? Would be nice to see one kept standard, all too often they are just "slammed" on cheap coilovers which ruin the ride then broken up a few months later when the owne...

Re: 1.8 8v b3 running issues missing and dead flat. HELP!
Spi or digi? ^this... what's the engine code? Sounds like timing may be a tooth out, maybe duff coolant temp sender (overfuelling due to still being on the cold start map would explain the smoke) or failing ignition amplifier struggling to supply enough current to the coil. But impossible to say as...

Re: Handbrake cable differences??
No they don't work, have a set of brand new b4 cables here for that reason..... the difference is the length of the guide tubes to the handbrake mech, they are longer on a B4 so the outer cable ends up being too short on a b3 and you can't get any tension in the cables.

If you go to the mk3 style then Meyle HD are probably the best ones available at the moment. they are marketed as a VW Sharan/ford Galaxy part but fit perfectly on a b3 or b4 Passat, I'm running them on mine at the moment. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-of-MEYLE-HD-Front-Top-Mounts-for-VW-Sharan-Mk3...

haha
I had a bunch of bits left over from when I stripped the B4 16v for my engine, literally couldn't give the bits away, ended up taking most of it to the tip.

Re: B4 vr6 hesitation any help ?
I know it's a different engine but the car my ABF came out of did the exact same thing, and as such had failed it's MOT on emissions. Previous owner had changed a bunch of stuff and sold it as a non-runner. I fixed it with a new ECU relay. Apparently at lower rpms the ECU injects fuel sequentially i...
