Oil recommendation?

Hi guys, it's service time again. I'm wondering which oil is VW recommended or do you use? I normally use Shell Helix Ultra Pro AV-L 0W-30 but a 5L container is now around £50. Any recommendations? I tried searching the forum for "oil" but got an error about the search term being t...

Re: EPB alarm sounding but no actual fault

Thanks Mitch. I actually think the battery may be an issue. Is it true that a low battery can trigger the EPB alarm? ISTR reading that some kind of software update was needed to change this behaviour.

EDIT: I read it here

Re: Key Stuck in Ignition?!?

Some youtube videos cover this but as you mentioned they relate to autos. I read a few of the comments and someone suggested pressing the clutch twice with your foot on the brake. Sounds like guesswork really.

Re: EPB alarm sounding but no actual fault

I have VCDS but haven't scanned it. I just assumed I would get a "normal" EPB fault code. I'm no expert with VCDS so correct me if I'm wrong.

EPB alarm sounding but no actual fault

My Mrs got into the car today and as soon as the key was put into the ignition, the EPB alarm sounded. Thing is, the brakes are locking and unlocking fine. I had the NS rear calliper replaced about a month ago if that has any bearing on things. I went out to the car this evening and when I put the k...

Re: My car stalled and wouldn't start.

Which fuel pump did you change? Allegedly there is one in the fuel tank and / or one at the side of the engine? Also which engine is in your B6? The thing is now... my car seems to be running fine so I think your test might not help at the moment. If I have to get it recovered again, it will be the ...

Re: My car stalled and wouldn't start.

Sorry for the delay in updating this and thanks very much for the helpful info! When the car stalled I went home to collect an old netbook I have with an old version of VCDS. I scanned the engine module only (low battery on the netbook) and saw only a glow plug fault code (since been replaced). The ...

Re: My car stalled and wouldn't start.

Would there not have been some fault code regarding fuel pressure etc? Also I was told there was no in tank pump, just one that sits at the left side of the engine?

My car stalled and wouldn't start.

My Mrs was driving the car a few days ago when it suddenly stopped and wouldn't start up again. It turned over OK but by the the time I got to her, the battery was getting low (hazard lights etc), so it was struggling to turn over. I had to get it recovered to the local mechanic who also could not g...

Both the affected windows work from their own switch, just not from the driver's door. They only go down. Gonna get a better look at the weekend.

One rear window not going up from driver control

My nearside rear passenger window works fine from its own button control but will only go down from the driver's control. I've opened the inner door handle and checked the plug under the controls - all seems OK. Not sure if I've a faulty switch or what. Anyone know the pinout for the driver's consol...

Left it to the mechanic this morning. It was indeed a turbo hose. All sorted.

Thanks gizmo ;) I have a habit of buying stuff and never using it... like my MFD - because I didn't know if anyone nearby could re-adjust the mileage.

Where are you btw? I'm just outside Antrim.

Re: P2279 Leak in air intake and hissing sound

The dash light was on but is out now that I cleared it with VCDS. I'm guessing it will come on somewhere between me leaving home and arriving at the MOT centre.

Not even if it's showing fault lights on the dash and in limp mode?

I intend bringing my laptop with me to clear any faults beforehand and hoping all is OK till it gets sorted. :|

P2279 Leak in air intake and hissing sound

Just typical... I have my MOT on Tuesday and yesterday this fault appeared. Car went into limp for my Mrs and she wasn't happy. There's a lack of power under acceleration and I can hear a hissing sound coming from around the dash area (under acceleration). VCDS shows P2279 fault. I cleared it and to...

Re: P2015 error VCDS - some confusion

I know I'm a bit late following up on this. Apologies for that. The fault had cleared for quite some time but then returned recently. I checked it yesterday and the linkage from the motor to the flaps is not moving at all when the engine is switched on or off. I couldn't get at it yesterday as the e...

Re: leaking washer bottle

I had the exact same problem last year. I took the wheel off, loosened the underbody splash guard and the wheel arch guard. I tied the wheel arch guard back and was able to reach inside the wing and remove the motor. In my case I think it was the rubber grommet that seals the washer motor to the bot...

@ExAudiSi - Which method of shipping did you select as a matter of interest? They all seem a bit expensive for such a small part. Also did you get hit for import duty at all?

P2015 error VCDS - some confusion

I'm seeing this intermittent fault appear: 008213 - Intake Manifold Flap Position Sensor (Bank 1) P2015 - 000 - Implausible Signal - MIL ON However after some searching I see references to two areas / components. The first (after searching this forum) seems to point to issues with the throttle body ...

Re: 008465 Throttle Valve stuck open - advice please.

I've bought a new "Air flap motor" on ebay - should be here on Thursday (Siemens-VDO part number A2C59512935). Is it easy enough to replace or should I leave it into the local auto guy?
