Changed Fuel and Air filter, now really noisy

As per the heading, i changed the Fuel and Air filters the other day and my engine is noticably noiser and it's had me worried for a couple of days. Also, every now and them i seem to get a lot of flat spots in acceleration. After my VacuumPump was changed it was so quick, but now i'm not getting th...

Re: Help me service my Passat

Very useful information in this thread and for anyone who is still not too sure, there's a neat guy on youtube you created some videos on how to do some stuff on passats.

It may help out - http://www.youtube.com/user/myturbodies ... eos?view=0

Re: Hard brake pedal, loss of braking

Well, well, well.....£540 later, and a new vacuum/fuel pump is to be fitted.

Not the least bit happy, but i'm documenting it so it can help someone else.

Re: Hard brake pedal, loss of braking

Spoke too soon, the problem returned after only 200 miles. So it's back to calling the guy back to let him know. I suspect i'll be stumped for a new vacuum pump now, seeing this fix didn't work.

Quoted £130 for the part from TPS apparently.

Re: Hard brake pedal, loss of braking

Just to let anyone know that my car is fixed. It was the Vacuum outlet pipe on the tandem pump that was faulty (thanks Karl). So the guys at the garage gave it a clean up and sealed it over, took it for a 30 mile drive and all was well. I must say i think i may have had this problem since i got the ...

Re: Hard brake pedal, loss of braking

Garage could not find fault with the servo or the vacuum pump as they were reading well. Hoses were checked too and no leaked, it was smoke tested also with no leaks.
They are going to take it a run as i said it only happens after about 15-20 miles or so.

I'll let you know.

Re: Hard brake pedal, loss of braking

Definately sounds like a low vacuum issue. Either the tandem pump is duff or you have a vacuum leak. Worth checking the outlet pipe on the tandem pump. Some pumps seem to have some kind of joint that allows a certain amount of movement. This wears and causes a large loss of vacuum. The Vacuum is us...

Re: Hard brake pedal, loss of braking

It's just happened again folks, and like last time there was an engine management light that has come on in the dash with an "Emissions Warning!!" notification. Again brake was hard to push, given a hard push as suggested you get a reasonable pressure but hardly enough. I'm taking it to a ...

Re: Hard brake pedal, loss of braking

Have you had the water problem in the past in the battery area of the car, it's not uncommon where the water has sat it rots the bottom of the brake master cylinder which can cause this it's bone dry in there, and has been since i got the car 6 months ago. On searching around it sounds like a Servo...

Hard brake pedal, loss of braking

Hey folks, I must have drove around last night, from Glasgow, Stirling, Falkirk and back and it was quite the speedy stop and starting type of drive. I suddenly lost all braking going down a country road and had to slow using gears and the handbrake. The brake pedal went down about 3-6cm then stoppe...

Shortlisted for a photography comp

Hey folks, HTC released a competition called Dusk Until Dawn and you had to post a picture of something at sunrise or sunset, so i sent one in from my phone. I had no idea my photo had been shortlisted, and now it's up to a vote. http://twtpoll.com/1asinq My photo is at the bottom (J) and it's a sun...

Had 6000k Hids fitted to my Passat for 3 months now, B5.5. Not had one problem with the fuzz or anyone saying they dazzle them. Just make sure the ceramic bar points up the way.

Re: Central locking has stopped working

Strange, i asked about this the other day and i'm still no better off. All of a sudden the key fob stopped locking/unlocking the doors.

i've heard rumours of the key fob being pressed so many times out of range and it just de-activates. However, the activation procedure in the book doesn't work.

Re: Remote wave not locking doors

Everything is dry in the cabin Karl, i've been quite vigilant in that dept after reading enough on here.
I'll try disconnecting the battery.

I've fitted a Sony HU recently, but had it fitted for about 3 weeks now, and also swapped the red and yellow wires as none of the stations were saving.

Re: Remote wave not locking doors

Nah the internal button doesnt release it's a one time press and it pops back out again. It only deactivates the alarm for the time the car is locked. Once you come back and open and close the car the internal sensors re-activate, unless you press the button again on leaving. Strangest thing is now ...

Remote wave not locking doors

After a few searches and trials of various things i still cannot get my remote key to lock or unlock the doors. It's true what they say about the devil making work for idle thumbs, because inside the drivers pillar, i see a little button on the drivers side pillar, with a little car with a wifi sign...

Re: How do I improve MPG??

I have the 130pd b5.5 and i'm always on the lookout for better MPG as i get average 35-37 in town and on longer drives 45-56 MPG. I do think this is pretty good for this car. I think it's down to keeping the weight out the car, tyre pressures checked often, and also keeping to the speed limit. As so...

Re: Best Smart Phone Query?

I'm running on the Desire S with HTC Sense. HTC Sense is different to Samsungs Touch-Wiz interface, although they are both Android. Best to go into a shop and try them out, to see what one you like. Personally i prefer Sense and its more slick, however uses more resources. The sat-nav app that comes...

At the cost of sounding a bit thick, i thought it only mattered to get more dense air into a petrol car? Is there a significant difference to doing this?
