Re: How many left?

I bought my 99 1.8t b5 Passat in July 2004 at 85,000. My wife now drives it mainly as I have a 2006 Audi A6. The Passat now done 220,000 miles. Since the MAF went 2 years ago and was changed, I'm getting better mpg. I can get 40+ quite easy on long runs. Rust has come through the paint on the driver...

Re: Are Passats BIG?

It will take 3 metre lengths of guttering , coving , wood etc and have that bit extra room in the boot and rear passenger leg room over the tight Audi A4 B5 , B6 and B7 chassis . An Audi A6 C6 and C7 Avant is too a bigger barge . I have a 2006 2.7TDI A6 Avant. Bought it for the space and it does fe...

Re: for all you diesel guy's out there

Ever since my MAF went on my 1.8t, with the replacement my mpg is better than it was, and it was ok to begin with. I can usually get more than 40 mpg on a run at legal limit speeds. Its done 223k so far. I tend to drive with torque than bhp, fairly swift, change up at 3k and keep a nice gap in front...

Ally wheel refurb in the Kettering area - recommendations?

I'm looking to get my 18" rims refurbished on my Audi A6. Does anyone know of any reputable people in the Kettering and perhaps Northampton area who could do this? I've just had four new tyres fitted and two rims were damaged (I wouldn't have expected less X( !!). They have offered to reimburse...

Glenmorangie at Tain is a good distillery to visit and it is free. Just check its open as I had the "Walley World" experience when I last tried to visit - yes, it was closed!! lol! I find Glasgow a great place to vist - down to earth, a bit gritty but there's something about it that makes ...

I've always changed the oil on my 1.8T every 10,000 miles over the 11 years its been in our ownership. Now it's done 217,000 miles. I've always used fully synthetic though. Never had an issue with sludge.

B5.5 every day of the week But as much as i love the 1.8 turbo's, doing that many miles and even a petrol head like me would have to make way for a diesel, unless you have very deep pockets to run a 1.8tGood luck I guess cost will be less of an issue in Canada where petrol will be half the cost tha...

Re: What did you do to your Passat today?

Washed mine yesterday. I'm noticing more bits of paint bubbles - on the drivers front wheel arch on the passenger back and just starting on the lower part of the drivers rear arch. It is 16 years old though with 215,000 miles done. I've had it 11 years myself and done 130,000 of those miles myself. ...

Re: fuel consumption figures on a run

Try finding a nice tall bread lorry to hang out behind - they are tall enough that you can follow at a safe distance and still be in their slipstream. But you'll be stuck doing bread lorry speed! :) Coaches are the thing to find :D They're restricted to 60mph rather than 56mph and they leave a larg...

Re: seats in b5.5

C5 Audi A6 seats are meant to fit. A big difference with later Audi models is with the rails. In the B5 and B5.5 the seats slot into the rails that are already in the car and I think it is the same with the C5 A6 and B5 Audi models. In the later Audis etc the rails are on the seat and just bolt into...

Someone had a skip outside their flat in the terrace I used to live on and I noticed a lot of stuff that was put in it was combustible. I made a mental not of parking anywhere near it in case some scumbag decided to torch it. Sure enough I was woken by the crackling of burning wood at 4am followed s...

Re: Boot won't open when unlocked with the doors fob

I had a similar problem with mine which turned out to be a heavly gunked up lock after trying to unlock it manually. After a liberal helping of WD40 I got the lock to work manually and also remotely. It may be the case that it may be loose enough to unlock manually but maybe it's a bit to stiff to u...

Re: We like moist but not moist carpets

If the carpet is damp, chances are is that there will be a lot of water in the sound deadening which is thick, so you'll have to lift it before the wiring underneath corrodes. Luckily the sound deadening is made of recycled fibres so a vax cleaner or similar should be effective at sucking most of th...

Re: Tyre shop badly scratches pristine alloy wheel and offer

The point is this. Someone else [who should really know better] has caused damage and has caused it through unprofessional neglect. And on a wheel that looks relatively new, then I would say the damage should be fixed. If the wheel already had a few marks and they added more noticeable marks, I woul...

My 1999 1.8T is being used by my wife to get her to work and back, whilst the carpets in my 55 plate A6 dry out due to water ingress (yes it happens to them as well). I prefer to use the Passat which is better on back roads which I use a lot to avoid queues on the M1. It's also driven extra on Wedne...

15 years ago I resealed the rear light clusters on an Audi 80 I owned because they were leaking. I used silicone sealant but this failed because it did not want to bond to the paint. In ended up using proper sealing cord which did the trick. Hence I wouldn't trust silicone sealant to solve leaks. It...

Re: So B5.5 or a B6 help and and advice!

I recently bought a 55 plate Audi A6 2.7TDi in FWD and manual 6-speed guise. It's great for long hauls with a silky V6 Diesel - lovely and smooth. In third and fourth gear accelerates like a scalded cat and at 70mph ticks over at a tad under 2,000 rpm. However, I prefer using my 1999 'T' plate 1.8T ...

I always wash mine myself.

If I have ever needed to clean my car away from home, I've used a jet wash but I keep away from using any brushes, even if it means that I may not get a proper clean. A bit of left-over dirt is easier to get rid of than a load of scratches from a dirty brush.

Re: B8 Passat. Pre-launch pictures and official press releas

I think the B6 and B7 had a tough job trying to beat the B5 and B5.5 for styling. Some elements of the B6 just didn't seem to sit well with the shape, such as the headlights and rear lights, almost like they belonged to another car. The B7 addressed this a bit but still the different lines and curve...

Re: Someone tried stealing bumper!

I've lost my aerial and jack point covers up to now. With the aerial they did me a favour as reception on my radio was poo and I though it was just down to having an aftermarket CD/radio unit that came with the car, and all I could get annoyingly was Classic FM. Anyways, as soon as I replaced the ae...
