No Ignition - Beeping Red Steering Warning
My brother parked his car on Saturday evening, went abroad on Sunday. I went to start the car and the ignition lights won't come on. Because of this, I can't read any codes either. When I put the key in, the orange steering light turns red and beeps. No other sounds or lights (with the exception of ...

Passat Low On Power - No Warning Lights
Been driving around in my brother's Passat (2.0 TDi 2006 140 BKP engine) as he's gone on holiday and noticed that the car is lacking power. Sometimes it feels normal, but at other times it feels like it has no turbo. The turbo is whining a bit (I believe it was replaced sometime before my brother bo...

Re: Car Not Starting (HELP!!) - Turns Over But...
Haha I guess I'm a bit naive like that.
Anyways, new pump fitted, changed the fuel filter (was pretty black after only 5 months!) and cycled the pump a few times (ignition on / off) and she fired up straight away. Thanks for all your help

Re: Car Not Starting (HELP!!) - Turns Over But...
Thanks for all your help :) Turns out that the replacement pump is also dead - checked for power at the connection and all is good. Took it back for an exchange but (just in case I was doing something obviously wrong) I got them to test both my original pump and their replacement - both are definite...

Re: Car Not Starting (HELP!!) - Turns Over But...
Thanks for the reply. I have thought about the fact that the replacement pump might also be faulty. I certainly can't hear it run (is it supposed to be fairly audible??). Is there a way to test it? I've read about using a 9v square battery but that was in the B5.5 I think. Also, will there be a fuse...

Re: Car Not Starting (HELP!!) - Turns Over But...
No, it hasn't run out of fuel.
I took it for an MOT and service a few months ago and something similar happened. They used easy start or something to eventually get it going.

Re: Car Not Starting (HELP!!) - Turns Over But...
Hi, Thanks for the replies. I don't think its the immobiliser - no warnings on dash etc and I've tried the spare key as well. I've just replaced the pump in the tank with a second hand one. It kind of fired up for slightly longer but then died again. Did that twice, and now back to just turning over...

Car Not Starting (HELP!!) - Turns Over But...
Hi, Brother's Passat (2006 B6 2.0TDi - BKP) is refusing to start. It started ok this morning, but literally a few hundred yards away it stalled and wouldn't start - queue rush hour traffic! He killed the battery by trying to start it, so we tried jump starting. It turned over ok, but wouldn't start....

Clutch Pedal / Lacking Power
Two different problems with the car.... My brother told me his Passat (2.0 TDi 2006) was lacking power occasionally and that a warning light came on but went off again. I read the code and it was something to do with the boost [pressure not reached?] (can't remember the exact code) but I cleared it ...

Parking Sensors - Strange Fault (Foglamp)
It must have been a couple of years now since I fitted a parking sensor to my brother's Passat. He's only told me today, that it doesn't work when the rear foglamp is switched on. I just tried it now and yes, it's true! What could be causing this? Ok, I know the rear fog doesn't get used that often,...

Re: Noisy Fuel Pump(?) & Coolant Loss
Thanks for the replies. I did do a search, specifically for the pump as I recall seeing a video of how to replace it, but haven't been able to find it again. On the coolant side, this one has a blue cap and is a bit stiff to turn towards the end (when closing it). Guess I'll give that a try as well....

Noisy Fuel Pump(?) & Coolant Loss
Hi all, Couple of issues with my brother's Passat (2.0 TDi BKP engine). Firstly, when I started it from cold this morning, there was a slight buzzing noise coming from the rear of the car - this gradually went away over 10 - 15 seconds. I'm assuming this is a fuel pump fault? Does this need to be re...

Airbag Light - Code 01217
Silly question, but this is listed as 'driver's side igniter' on the ross-tech website (and everywhere else that I've searched for that matter), but because ross-tech is an American site (and therefore they have left-hand drive cars), does this mean in our case this will be the passenger side ignite...

Re: Crunchy Rear Brake(s)
Thanks Holophyte.
The oads were changed at the same time that the caliper was changed, but this is more recent I think... However, I'll visually inspect these as anyways - might need changing? Or even the discs?

Re: Crunchy Rear Brake(s)
Thanks Richard - was thinking of at least cleaning the brakes with some brake cleaner so will check the EPB motors. One was replced (with caliper) about a year or so ago, and I think the other one is slower or runs on a bit longer (about a second or less)... not sure if that means anything or if the...

Crunchy Rear Brake(s)
The rear brake(s) seem to be slightly 'crunchy' on my brother's Passat (2006 TDi S). Much like when a car has been parked for ages, only this is used daily and doesn't seem to get better after its been driven. It's a bit like a gritty / crunchy feel, and like the slightly extra 'bite' you get when t...

Electrical Faults? (Couple Of Niggling Faults)
My brother's Passat has a couple of niggling electrical 'faults' I think - nothing major as he hasn't complained, but everytime I drive the car, I pick up on these things  1, Wipers - All the wiper settings seem to work as they should, however, on a single wipe (or even when turning the wipers...

Engine Rattle, Or Something Else?
My brother's Passat has a strange rattle when cold. I found the following thread ( http://www.ukpassats.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=51134&p=543881&hilit=engine+rattle#p543881 ) which seems similar but the difference is that the rattle is only there when the engine is cold, and under ...

Coolant Sensor
Hi, can anyone tell me me the coolant teperature sensor is on the B6 (2006, 2.0TDi)? I've seen various posts and youtube videos about the B5 and earlier, but nothing on the B6. Is it towards the fire wall, below the intake pipe? Ease of access? I'm going to change this to see if it resolves the warm...

Re: Urgent advice needed please-seized calliper
When it happened to my brother's (passenger side), I took the wheel off (bloody bolts were seized so had to borrow a breaker bar from the tyre place round the corner!) and just used a hammer to hit the caliper, hoping to release it.... and it worked! Did try disconnecting the switch etc, but none of...

Re: Starting Issue
Thanks for the reply. Last service it had the fuel filter replaced, but this problem pre-dates that. In fact, it was at this last service when the oil pressure light was fixed that I thought the starting problem had been cured (but wasn't).
