Re: PD130 lift pump in B5 AFN ?

Cheers. The problem I have at present really is sucking the stuff up the smaller pipe. Ideally I need to install maybe a 12mm ID fuel pipe so it's easier to pull through but that's a ball ache on. At these temps the veg oil looks a bit like cold golden syrup. The fuel system is looped in the engine ...

PD130 lift pump in B5 AFN ?

Anyone running the PD130 lift pump in a AFN tank which doesn't have one ? 1) Are they reliable ? 2) Will they flow past if they fail, using the IP to pump as normal ? 3) Will it cause a problem if I have no fuel return line to the tank, or do they have a built in pressure relief ? 4) Is the pickup a...

Re: Gauges......who runs what...in a TDi....

I run an EGT and a boost guage - sadly with vac. The boost guage has been a twit to stop the needle from flickering. I have two filters inline and it's still doing it slightly. Both guages are autometer - ebay specials. I modifed both of them to change the lighting to blue to match the interior. I a...

Re: ELM327 Obd2 Bluetooth dongle in 98 AFN?

It'd be fantastic if it supported configuration.
I'm happy with my cable one at the mo and too many other projects taking my time.
But at sub 14quid, it's worth buying one to find out & crack the case open to see if there is a TTL port or EEPROM with the info in it.

Re: Heated seats help

The switch for them has a FET which may break going closed circuit. Because stupidly the wiring for these is directly from the battery without any cut off for key out, if the FET goes closed circuit your seats turn off and flatten the battery. If they are working correctly, then key will control the...

Standard ones. I tried to get into the front doors to fix the lock but I failed at getting the inner door panel off to route some new wiring. All bolts removed, dislocated but something still holding it in place. Ran out of time. Got some nice MB quarts to go in there if I ever do figure it out tho ...

Re: Ebay suspension kits - again!!

Getting on for two years (just over a month shy) of these being fitted, nearly 40K miles later and I'm happy with the results so far. The U shaped links from the ARB to the bottom control arms have gone on both sides and been replaced again with cheap ones but TBH I think a better solution is needed...

Re: who runs veg oil?

Still rocking the veg oil and about about 20K since this time last year. Had a self inflicted ring gumming issue which has been cured by flowing stream through the engine on high load. Got the water to fit water injection but not the time... Also rocking an electric heater and temperatore sensors wh...

Still on 42 MPG long term average so that must be the baseline for me ! :)

Need to change the thermostat as also running colder here.
Have a heat exchanger taking out lots of heat for heating up the veg oil fuel, but had also blocked 1/2 the rad off too to compensate.

Re: B5 AFN, Battery light on - brand new alternator!

A year later and I'm still running via a wire, bypassing the problem. Turns out I have an issue in the cluster. Now I had to buy a new cluster as I broke one of the steeper whilst modifying my stock cluster to add in some gauge pods. I thought I'd swap the EEPROM over to sort the imobillisor issue b...

Re: Wiring Diagram - AFN ECU fuses

Thanks for that Karl. The Russian site ones aint at all bad, but Elsa is much better for sure, with the correct pinouts for starters, but also the full list of all components. Suspect it has shorted. It's a still thing that the fuse doesn't blow however but only overheats! Thanks for the part number...

OK, sort of fixed. Tapped 12V to the lamp wire at the alternator with the engine running and batt light on. Alternator now charging again. Been off over night and working this morning. However have modified the cable at the alternator so I can just lift the bonnet and jumper it till the weekend when...

Re: Need help with towbar electrics

I've got a spliced loom fitted - actually it's using male/female connectors and is plug and play. However on stripping out my rear interior I found a loom (on the left hand side) which looks to be VAG installed, terminated with a 13 PIN connector to be inserted into the rest of a socket. So is/isn't...

Re: Wiring Diagram - AFN ECU fuses

Thanks Karl, 1998 AFN But TBH, those diagrams from that site cover it. They show the wiring links, but not all of the connectors. So it'll show a wire going from say the Cluster to the Alternator, but wont show it passes through multiple connectors to get there. Do the Elsawin diagrams show all the ...

Ok, so now further reading, the two wires are L (lamp) and DFM (Digital Field Monitoring) for ECU controlled loading. So this should be a little easier to figure out now since it's not all computer controlled as suggested by the recon guys #:-s Seems quite a few passat owners have had issues with th...

Re: who runs veg oil?

I run WVO in my AFN. Have been for just shy of 2 years. Twin tank, starts on diesel and then switch to WVO after a warm up then switch back again before stopping with some 3 point solenoid valves. Else you'll have issues starting and eventual ring gumming Running 100% veg after warming, even in this...
