Re: induction kit
Oiled can mess with the maf and the cones clog up with engine bay dust , even Ferrari and Lamborghini have paper pleated panel filters . Drill a few cheeky holes lower wing side / front and bottom , there's already two holes in bottom to help prevent a hydrolock . The oil thing is a myth. You'd hav...

Emissions question
My 1.9tdi recently passed its biennial Controle Technique but the tester said emissions were on the limit. So do I expect a fail in two years time or is there anything I can do? Will using "super" diesel really make any difference? And a dumb question here because at my age I don't get gre...

Re: Warning lights - confused.
Which is exactly what happened when I tried it before buying a new bulb! I did wonder what was going on with that forest of twin filament bulbs, and then when I realised that the pins were offset in TWO planes not just one it was time to remember it's a VeeDub so you go with the flow :hyst Thanks fo...

Re: Warning lights - confused.
So I still have one residual question... I've replaced the bottom bulb in each cluster now and I have working brake lights and no warning lights. However...I notice that all four bulbs in each light cluster are the dual filament type for brake/sidelight - only the reversing light is single filament....

Re: Warning lights - confused.
Totally agree, but it would have been nice to not have to poo myself 800kms from home LOL If anyone has bought spare combined brake light /sidelight bulbs, check they are the 21w/4w version with offset pins and NOT the normal 21w/5w type where the pins are staggered vertically but are symmetrical in...

Re: Warning lights - confused.
Well that is hands down the weirdest thing I've ever seen on a car, and I've seen a lot. Firstly big thanks to everyone who replied so quickly and accurately, helping me to settle to the fact that my engine wasn't about to self destruct! Got the rear light clusters out today and, apart from discover...

How very VW....my upper brake light is working but neither of the lower ones. Does that eliminate the pedal switch or is that the first thing to change when I get home?

Warning lights - confused.
So I'm in Northern France heading south for home with a mere 800kms to go and suddenly my dashboard is like a christmas tree. First the traction control light came on after I pulled off from a coffee stop, then five minutes later the glow plug light starts flashing, then a bit later an "Engine ...

Re: Just got stitched right up
What's that got to do with the clutch pedal though? The switch is there on a cruise control equipped car to cut the system out if the clutch is depressed?

Re: Just got stitched right up
Nope, it’ll have a clutch switch too. Good shout on the brake switch and the CCM methinks By the way, when checking for damp carpets be aware that the carpet and sound deadening is very thick, so it could feel dry to the touch but be wet underneath. The critical area for the CCM is under the carpet...

Re: Two stroke experiment starts today
Interesting - this one took its time to pop up here. Its definitely a useful trick as the proponents on the forum suggest. I never bothered with the Passat but I also run a couple of Nissan Terranos with 2.7TDi engines - oldish but bulletproof diesel motors that will even happily run on 100% vegetab...

Re: Intermittent brake pressure problem.
The pedal is hard - not to the floor, its just as if the engine wasn't running. And this is the very first time I apply the brakes after travelling maybe a mile and a half from startup. I'll check for leakage but the fact it only occurs rarely, only after cold start and only that one time at the beg...

Intermittent brake pressure problem.
Hello peeps - hope you are all well? Ok this months problem is as follows: very intermittently - maybe every tenth trip out - I have an issue where the first time I apply the brakes there is no pressure. Obviously I can get the car to stop eventually but its as if the ignition is turned off so its a...

Re: Blacksmoke remaps
Cheers Aidan, useful feedback. I'm looking to do one on my base 100bhp/74Kw 1.9TDi so hopefully not too drastic. I was amazed how easy it is to do....I would have worried about it but last week a mate of mine who lives near me in France came round with his Triumph Tiger, an OBD cable and a software ...

well how about because thats the only tax I'll ever pay? Because theres no VED here.
And my insurance will be cheaper.
And my MoT lasts two years
And diesel is under a quid a litre.
Shall I carry on?

Blacksmoke remaps
Just a general question because I know a few on here are familiar with these....and I'm asking it because here in France they already fail you on a basic EML and will then log in with OBD for a look see so they can retest whatever the issue was when you've had the problem sorted and the light exting...

Re: Drivers door lock motor.
So the card will come off then with the door closed? Its just when I did the rear door there was at least one securing screw hidden by the door shut at the bottom. Luckily after messing with the central locking long enough it did open; I'm just not so optimistic on this one. And when you say, "...

I'm back in the UK for a couple of weeks but after replacing my rear nearside door lock motor with much trauam, oh fiddlesticks! me if the drivers door hasn't now failed, I assume with the same fault. Re: ENGINE NUMBER
Thanks for your reply Yuri - thankfully I fixed the original issue :esm Ray the issue was potentially significant given some of the calculators I looked at. They have an Ecotaxe from 2007 onwards, which can add 10,000 euros to the price of a high CO2 car, and from 2004-7 there was a CO2 tax which di...
