Re: APU 1.8t cam chain tensioner

4a4 just sent you a PM before i read your post. I am sure that i am about to do things the other way round from you, I suspect that after taking off the cam cover and see the amount of carbonised oil in there that changing the pump is a good idea. I did vagcom my car and it didn't come up the code a...

Re: APU 1.8t cam chain tensioner

No i am very sure it is the tensioner as it a whiplash sound that is coming from the tensioner area. If you leave the engine to cool down for say 10 minutes and then start it. Then put the engine under load you can here the inlet followers rattle as the chain is slack and the cam timing is off...

APU 1.8t cam chain tensioner

Anybody replaced one?

Mine sounds like a diesel at the moment! Planning to just leave the original chain and replace the tensioner unit, its a full front end cam belt off exhaust cam out job to do the chain as well.

Second hand values...

Went out today to look at trading my 1999 B5 1.8T sport estate for a newer B5.5 highline and was surprised at the book valve. Car has a full history with 101K on the clock and the trade value was around the £500 mark :?
The car must be worth more than that if I scrapped it??

Milltek exhausts

According to milltek there Passat system will only fit on a post 2000 model or later (b5.5) for the 1.8T. Has anybody had any experience with fitting this system to a B5 1.8T Passat as i have checked the part numbers for the B5.5 and B5 1.8T and from the down pipe back, they are both the same number...

Mind you I only got to try the sports set after the car had done 68K miles What i did find odd was the original rear shocks had a bump stop which was longer than the new "sports" one i got from VAG.... The fronts were the same. The standard sport shocks are a little soft IMO Aye I'm not af...

The new eibach springs don't seem to lower the car any more than some of the B5.5's i have seen on the road. I will post up a before and after pic of the ride height. The standard sport shocks are a little soft IMO, it was like having a 100 mph car with 60 mph suspension. I drove a standard A4 1.8T ...
